CAMC is this taking the Mick

Oh Please! :banghead:

For a car park?
Britstops is nothing.

For a mates rates group booking
For comparison, Marazion CAMC was £7 for an economy (no EHU) pitch last week.
Commercial published rate.

All depends on what you need, where you need it & when you need it

No one option is right every time, for every one.
Ahh. but as someone pointed out, this is a bank holiday weekend.. andddddd... we will be the only ones there !!!
We ( as a family ) tend to get very noisy and sometimes in to the early hours..
We also like a fire pit in the middle, which is also ok.. It's perfect for us !

You will get a 12.5% discount when you pay as the vat is reduced. Making it £98? Still not cheap on Spain, can you use asci?
or go for a mid week discount site 😎
Plus if you'd bought the 20% discount vouchers when they were on offer it would have been further reduced. We never use their sites in high season but this year with the vouchers and the vat reduction we've stayed on loads and on average its been about £22 a night.

If the location is ‘key‘ as stated by the OP....then yeah.

Britstops is only free If you go against its whole ethos.....your supposed to spend your hard earned with the vendor in exchange for a place to park for the night and the three nearest Britstops to Hawes are all a cars journey away.

I’ve already took my chance and am quite happy to pay the CAMC for three nights at the very site in question for the bank holiday weekend 👍🏼

Nice site, friendly staff, spotless facilities if you are using them, hand for the town 5min walk, or out into countryside. Falls a a 20-30min walk away.

That is the exact opposite of the Britstop ethos...

I don’t know if it’s an ethos or not but Britsops explain how they’re able to get sites to host campers and it is about a 2 way exchange.
Often comes up at MHF but here’s one May discussion post

I just booked a mixture of 5 CAMC CLs and club sites in South Wales, from 2/15 September. Not easy at the moment but job done. The cost came to a total of £200. For 13 nights works out at around £15 per night.
Good value for the time of year.
Try using CLs more. CAMC are good value generally, Top site like Hawes in peak bank holidays will be pricey. I factored in club site prices using discount vouchers I bought earlier.
We like to do a bit of wild camping too, but not at the moment.
Phil

Littlewheels you forgot to mention that, that price is for a serviced pitch.....

We didn't want to book a serviced pitch for next week but that was all the CAMC had available where we wanted to stay. At least the VAT reduction should mean we pay less on arrival.

To be fair, we are more concerned about the likelihood of queues to use their facilities and maybe only 1 block open instead of 2, even though site occupancy will be 100%.

We were in Castleton at the c&mc site last week , the site was full but there was no queuing for the facilities. A lot of people are using their own facilities , they had a yellow band system in operation for signalling how many folks are in shower blocks, it seemed to work well and we found it fine.

Since July 4th’s re-opening....I have predominantly stayed a CAMC sites around the country and to be fair their hasn’t been much queuing for facilities, the main problem is when people don’t use the band system correctly.

Some of their sites issue you with a band with your pitch number on to hang on a peg outside the facility when you enter...no pegs left wait for someone to come out.

Some of their sites have a tub full of Milton fluid with a set number of bands in at the facility entrance, take a band use the facility and replace it when you leave.....no band wait outside

obviously you can see where the problem arises......yup, when ‘WE’ don‘t follow procedure and leave the band on a peg when leaving or leave it in your pocket when using the other system and then people wait thinking the facility is full.

Looks good value to me, but Im sure you could find a field with a tap or a french carpark with 100 vans in it for a lot lot less

I dont get it, if its too expensive....dont go....and cancel your membership
I could find an excellent site with pool, restaurant and shop in France for 14 euros a night,,and a camperstop in Spain with toilets/showers bar/restaurant for less.BUSBY.

I haven’t factured any weekends overnights in but on the basis of 3 nights at £118 if l booked for a 14 nights the cost would be £550 and at the end of the day it’s a Campsite next to no facilities and l like so many do not use the block.
It’s not long ago that l have stayed at Grassington,Castleton that are favoured sites like so many others but it didn’t cost anywhere near this figure.

The cost of each site in the network are probably very similar and yet they milk the membership when ever they can.

They provide figures of pitch availability on any given week/weekend but these figures obviously include the unflavoured sites and many always have space.

As a club they need a bit of balance I’m sure members take advantage of midweek offers but many cannot take up these offers as many also cannot afford the high price of favoured or good location sites.

Great comparison on this basis l could drive to the Ferry have 14nights in France pay for the Fuel and still have enough to enjoy a Steak dinner and a nice bottle of Wine ,Oh and a Tan and no need for waterproofs.

Last time i spent a week in Hawes back in mid 80s because of the non stop rain it cost me 60 pounds for a set of waterproofs as i forgot to pack them,,BUSBY.

I can never understand why people compare UK site prices with Europe, last time I checked they still charge for the ferry or chunnel and I’m pretty sure the fuel usage would be slightly more, oh and then there’s a thing called time that has to be used travelling.

🤷‍♂️

Just back from New England Bay @ £18.90 \ night.
Next trip to Garlieston @ £16.28 \ night.
Next to Melrose @ £18.46 \ night.
All C&MC sites.
All cost before the pre-paid voucher "discount".
Whilst others may think "it's a waste of money" it's my money and we spend it the way we want to. Don't think the cost is unreasonable.

:o wrong thread - blimey. How I do that?

I know that YOU know I was being sarcastic 👍😂

The wrist band toilet entry system is great if people play fair. Recently in the lakes my wife caught two woman at 0530 whilst taking dog for a pee putting their bands in the slot and going back to their tents so they had first dibs in the morning . Just wrong

At Longleat people were taking other peoples bands as well. When requesting a replacement we had an arsy response from the site warden "We can't afford to give you one, you'll have to do without".

I use CAMC sites a lot, but am irritated by:
Only one gents loo for 100 vans?? - I understand C19 precautions (probably better than most) but come on.
The sites are SO identical they merge into one amorphous lump.
The wardens don't take always into account that you may have just driven for 6 hours and maybe a welcome would be welcome.

we saw people at Looe who pitched up then went and took a band, said that was theirs for the week😱 the wardens changed the colour of the bands every couple of days to stop this selfish behaviour

Really.......

I guess they give you the local produce free too then?

I guess you've both missed the "no obligation" bit ?

It costs the advertiser nothing to be entered into the Britstop guide. It costs nothing if there is space to park your van... advertisers can restrict numbers and/or days if they know they're going to be busy anyway.
They can insist on "ring ahead".

But it is simply advertising, and no advertising has a 100% strike rate.

So, yes you're expected to look at what they offer, but no obligation to buy.
Like regular parking at a garden centre for example, go in for a browse but you certainly don't have to buy a potted plant just because you parked there.

You can debate the moral imperative all you like... but the deal is... no obligation.
