The Background...

The internet is vital for my happiness.

No internet no fun or Fun.

A few weeks ago, a miracle took place at my (very small) orchard in (very) rural Portugal which I call Quinta Majay (QMJ).

The highly erratic and rather slow, one bar, 3G internet connection (via my NOS mifi thingy) suddenly became a two bar, 4G connection, delivering speeds up to 40mb per sec.

I have been in seventh heaven ever since.

YouTube videos with no buffering, live football all weekend, Skype calls with camera and so on.

However, in the last couple of weeks my Note 4 has been playing up... crashing - freezing - rebooting by itself and generally driving me mad.

I carried out all the procedures recommended by various Android forums but the general opinion was we would all have to wait for the next operating system update.

What happened next?

I woke up this "morning" and immediately checked Fun to see who I upset yesterday and check what was happening in Motor Home World. I do this every morning.

Each post took ages and ages to load.

Panic.

Checked my connection speed.

.9 mbps. (POINT NINE)

More panic... checked the connection via the NOS page... One bar, 3G.

Panic.

Rebooted the mifi. Still the same.

PANIC PANIC PANIC.

Switched off mifi again and waited a minute. Rebooted and...

Hooooorrrrraaaah!

Back to SUPER FAST.

Waves of massive relief.

And then...

Up popped a Samsung message. An operating system update is available. We will upload at 2am tonight unless you want it now.

NOW please.

I watch the little green Android robot man with his wiggling antenna and revolving "tummy spaghetti" and watched the update reach 100%. Sad I know but I watched that bar crawl across the screen.

Then it all went blank. I waited... still blank.

Minor panic.

Tried switching on... nothing.

Got up and went for a stroll to calm down.

Got back and the phone still blank. Removed battery and tried rebooting.

Still nothing.

Panic.

Did one of the procedures I learnt before (Vol Down, Power, Home button pressed all at once) and it started and then the robot reappeared and the system started updating again.

Much quicker this time. One more reboot and all seems fine now.

Major relief and time for hot croissants and Carte Noire coffee (Instant).

If any Funster has read all of this tedious post, I thank you... I was so happy and relieved I wanted to tell someone!

Sad but true... :)

Now don't buy a Samsung 7 right now.... you can't even take a plane with it, even if it works ...mainly if it works... you're considered as a walking danger!!!
Air France refuses any 7 or replacement device!!

I have a question
What time was brekky?
Normal time or lazy lair time ?

Sad but true... :)

JJ

Frightening actually. Forget thermo-nuclear destruction. Putin can destroy western life just by hacking the internet. No internet and our lives collapse.

I did wonder, when I saw the pictures of self destructing Samsungs, did you jump in your car ( van too slow ) to console JJ who must have been seriously stressed out by the news.

Life, the universe and everything, just about to place the order, when BOOOOOOOOOM his dreams come tumbling down.

Now things are much worse, he has the internet he lay away dreaming about, but not The Ultimate Samsung to make the best of it.

@JJ I am still on my Note 2.. I am not one to follow fashions or peer pressure to upgrade. It does what I need it to :)
I am still grateful for the recommendation all those years ago :)

Are you on 6.01 Marshmallow now? Mine updated a few months ago and again last week with, supposedly, tweaks to battery life and other stuff that passed me by.

On lack of internet and sad, St Petersburg recently, the most wonderful palaces and cathedrals and folk had the cheek to ask if there was any wifi, including me.

No "fashion" or "peer pressure" involved Mr Karl...

The Note 4 has more RAM (3 gb) so the live football streams much more smoothly.

Wasn't interested in the Note 5/6 with the absence of an sd card slot and fixed battery but the Note 7 was being brought to me by Father Christmas.

Sadly I think his sleigh caught fire...

Never mind.

Does it make you feel guilty enjoying yourself and relaxing in the sun while poor JJ is under so much pressure....:)
Errrr......Nope! He has so much free and relaxing time while I work....there's no need ;)

Just think now JJ with you super internet connection you will be able to watch the great Barcelona win again tonight.
(y)(y)(y)

I know Mr Paul... I know.

I love watching the result of Pep's foundations and innovations formed all those years ago. (y)

I hope you are coping with your new manager and the remodelled team ok.

Just look at all those points you have got!

Honda did a "Samsung" in the 1970s, a bike that had a disastrous mechanical problem. The next version of it was the best engineered bike they ever produced. I was lucky to own one.

I'll bet the Samsung 8 will be too.

It's what he does. Makes things disappear. And when you least expect it, pufffffffffff, and there it is again.

That is the really sad bit JJ, I happen to think the French brew some of the best coffee in the world and you have a French girlfriend, I'm supprised she hasn't showed you how to make a decent cup of coffee yet;)
