It started Sunday 3rd. 14:45 ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. It left late. First hour or so was lumpy the we went to the pictures, Tom Hanks, Bridge of Spies, what a great film. Soon after we had a snack and docked at 22:00.
Could not find nearby aire so hit the road for a couple of hours and parked with the wagons on the motorway. Woke up at 5:30 and though that's enough risk and hit the road again. 11 hours later on a similar aire just south of Pau. This time I reasoned, toll road, cars logged, risk low. So slept to 6:00. Quick breakfast, Somport Tunnel and another 11 hours saw us in Camping Llosa Cambrils.
So after all the talk on here "is the Somport Tunnel passable in January" the only snow we saw was a dusting on the very tops of the Pyrenees.
First time in Cambrils. Beautiful place made for cycling, endless really good cycle paths for miles along the front. Much is closed of course, it much be very lively when the thousands of rooms are occupied. Campsite is good, new toilet block. But shop and bar closed. ACSI rates. Positively hot today.
Next, Peniscola then Benidorm.
