We are Midelt after staying last night at Auberge Jurassique. We encountered slight snow showers and wind en route this morning. As we left Midelt we pulled into a Shell garage to fuel up and a Moroccan advised us that the road ahead was closed due snow at Azrou. He said it should be open tomorrow inshallah. He advised us to go back to the municipal camp site in Midelt where there is a team of Germans who are also waiting for the road to re-open. Unbelievable the temperature range . We've gone from 35 degs to 6 degs.
If your in the campsite with the toilet/shower block at the end you might just find a hearing aid on top of the shower wall, where I left it. LOL

Unless the weather improves dramatically then doubt we will be going there either. We are setting off early tomorrow to get over the Atlas and only plan thereafter is to visit Carrefour in Meknes for replenishments. Its about 5 or 6 degrees here in Midelt with a strong wind making it feels twice as cold.

Just heard from the Guardian that one of the German contingent (lady driving) has come off the snowy road somewhere between here and Azrou. Apparently she moved right over for an oncoming Moroccan vehicle and her camping car slipped over the edge and turned over several times. She's has multiple fractures and her husband is concussed. They have been taken to hospital and the scene is swarming with Police and Gendarmerie. Not sure if the van is a write off or not.

Im glad we stayed put and heeded the Guardians advice this morning.

Sorry to hear about all the poor weather in Maroc.
Just for anyone's info we're at the marina aire at Portimao as is Champers and we believe a couple of others. Stopping for couple of nights. It's warm and dry, though a bit blowy and we'll admit to the odd occasional shower. Forecast is for much better Thursday onwards.

We are at Sidi Kaouiki on our return leg. It's a bit blowy but when the sun appears it's not too bad. No rain at the moment. Terrible news about the German lady . It's often a game of chicken on these roads , to see who will pull over first. It seems the Moroccans have Allah on their side.

We are only in the Mid Atlas and have to cross the High Atlas yet. Sky keeps looking as though we are going to have a few feet of snow.

Hi Marc - we got up to set off early this morning. At 07:30, the guardian took me in his car to the very modern bus station here in Midelt. There were four buses in the station and a guy who works at the station who the guardian knew took a lift back into town with us. He said no buses departing north from Midelt today. Its grey skies here and snow flurries so its bound to be worse higher up. We have decided that if the buses aren't running it would be foolish for us to leave today therefore we are staying put for now.

Three weeks ago they had 60cms here at Midelt and they say they haven't seen weather like it for 35 years. Inshallah it books up tomorrow.

Not a cloud in the sky this morning, looks like the Algarve is switching on at last. Still cold mind you but will warm up as the day moves on.

Tomorrow we are supposed to get a break in the weather but we are hearing of coach crashes, fatalities, snow ploughs, snow gates closed, tortuous diversions etc etc so think we will err on caution this time.

Think when we eventually get to Meknes, we are gonna hang a left on the Autoroute to Rabat, and then up the main Autoroute to Tanger Med. Sod mountain passes and snow.

Stay put and stay safe mate, that road is not a pleasant experience in a blizzard, even the snow plough got stuck causing a traffic jam when we went that way!

And quite a nice drive to boot, that's what we did with a stop at Moulley and Asilah.

Left Midelt at 07:30 to try and get a head start. Weather bitterly cold but bright and breezy. Got to a place called Ait Oufella only to find a queue of traffic behind the the snow barriers which are closed. We have been led to believe that the gates may open at 10:00 inshallah.
Another German Motorhome convoy have turned around and decided to take the R503 via Boulemane to Fes. The road is rough for first 25km apparently we were told as one of their colleagues has already gone that route earlier this morning.
We will sit tight till 10:00 and see what Allah comes up with. We need the sun to come out and melt the ice ahead.

Well 10:00 has come an gone. Spoke to another chap from the queue and he reckons the barriers won't be lifted until 12:00 midday. Lots of people now milling around and shivering in the winter sun. Could do a roaring trade in teas and coffees.
