Has anyone on here, or does anyone know sombody, who has had a GRP/Fibreglass type box body made and then fitted to a chassis cab?

And if so, do they know how much it was?

I'm just looking at further options other than just a PVC, the chassis cabs are reasonably cheap (£5k used) compared to the size van I want (which is about £12k used) so i'm considering if getting a box built on to the chassis may work out better.

Made for them in Germany. And it wasn't cheap. But it was for a 12 tonne 4x4 flatback stripped back to just the ladder chassis.

I was told a company in Sheffield area did them but no idea who/what they where called so not a lot of help --you could try RS motorhomes now at Doncaster -they made there own boxes but no idea if they would do one for you -or they may point you in the right direction

You could also try this guy, he fitted our jack but I know he does full builds including bodies.

I should add that it would be fabricated from panels not a moulded fibreglass monocoque a la BT van.

We met a German family in France the other year with a converted forestry fire truck. He had used a refrigerator box for the conversion, has the added advantage of being very well insulated. Just another avenue for you to look at.

I've also seen a MH made from a Transit Luton Van. And insulation to the inside and some sort of door at the rear and that's it. Very boxy inside so fairly easy to convert I guess. The one I saw had a pair of PVC patio doors fitted at the back.

Thanks everybody for the replies (y). There's a lot of options out there. I've done a lot of digging and there are loads of companies that will make van bodies, motorhome bodies and bespoke bodies. Big companies doing Luton vans etc and even little companies doing small fibreglass car kits etc, so there's a lot of choice!

Unsurprisingly there wasn't any idea on prices, as most of it is bespoke. I did find one company that did a brand new Luton van box for £5.4k http://www.buckstonebody.co.uk/Special-Offers.html, (click on 'Here') now that isn't a small amount of money, but i suspect it's actually quite cheap for a brand new box of that size .

There's a company in Carlisle that do GRP bodies, new or adapted so I've emailed and asked them for a few prices, based on Internal measurements of 4.5m L, 2.10m W and 2.00m H. I've asked them for a brand new box based on those measurements, with a double floor.

I've also asked them how much it would be to adapt a standard Luton van in to my requirements (already on the chassis cab) or how much to adapt a standard Luton box and fit it on to a chassis cab of my choice.

I'll let you know how I get on price wise, incase it helps anyone. Although I suspect anyone going down this route will need to contact 20-30 companies in order to get a good idea of prices.
