Still dropping clangers and making it up as I go along
they have just quoted me £445 for a 17 year old PVC 1000miles a year
£3500 in personal belongings everything that not attached
£600 for windscreen I have checked how much a new one will cost and it in the region of under £400
180 days cover EU (whether I want it or not
SDP&Commuting as I use it for work sometimes
Marie-Claire i would love to know who you spoke to to get that quote

I had a strange thing when I was getting a quote with LV.

Going through all the info about our Moho and the as asked do you carry gas.
Well yes it’s a Moho and used for cooking heating etc.

The woman doing the quote then said we can’t insure you because of the gas 😳

Bizarre or what 🤷‍♂️
I specifically asked about the gas as I have to change mine to refillables (thanks to Calor) and was told no problem.
It was the contents cover that I was not happy about. They appear to allow a reasonable amount for caravans but next to nothing for motorhomes. That was 5/6 years ago so perhaps things have changed.
I told them how much I wanted as claiming on the house insurance for everything is not viable
It's that time of year... RENEWAL..

email off Comfort (current insurers) £418 inc breakdown cover

So tried the LV website, waste of time as does not recognise the registration and when confirmed manually it does not give my van's year of manufacture.. Phone call made and all details passed over. I already have my car with them so they started to quote on this multicover stuff.
Asked them to quote on a full year £272.52 inc breakdown.. Had the email so thats confirmed.
Did ask about windscreen over and said no limit but was spouting off all these excess figues..

Got 10 days to study it all before making a decision.. Going to phone Comfort and see what they say.. :whistle2:

** Edit.. From the email quote and to add to above questions in the thread.
Windscreen claim is £140 excess
Contents cover is £1000.
seems new customers are getting better deals
my excess is £75 for windscreen
£250 for accidental damage

That was 6 or 7 years ago. I just found it strange that they offered belongings cover on a caravan and not a motorhome as they would not have covered the cost of my Mac. They were not interested in the motorhome as such just the base van and motorhome insurance was not particularly advertised at that time (it may well have been someone on here who offered up the idea as I am sure I was prompted rather than found it online). As a member of the CSMA at that time we were insured for our cars and house so would have loved to have included the van. Thanks for this, I will certainly ask for a quote this year.

I got a decent quote from them but NFU just pipped them, it is strange the way they quote all the same.

I’ve just had a quote off them for a high value motorhome (£180,000). They’ve quoted £245 fully comp. Value of motorhome was not asked for. Neither was the presence of a tracker or alarm. As mentioned earlier, they seem to generically describe motorhomes with just the make of the base vehicle specified.

That all concerns me a bit, hence I did a search on here for Funsters’ experiences.

After using the website I called and spoke to a lady who put me on hold to speak with the underwriters. She returned to me and said the value is covered, the windscreen is covered (apart from excess), and they don’t specifically note the engine size, whether it’s diesel or petrol, automatic or manual.

I’d like some reassurance in writing before I proceed, so I’ve sent an email. I’ll update with a response if I get one.
I’ve not yet had a reply to my email. However, I have called them again because I already have our two cars insured with them at a very reasonable rate. They are able to add the motorhome as an additional vehicle at a VERY reasonable rate. I have yet again asked the questions about value and security measures and they seem to be not interested… they don’t ask the value.

The answers I have been given by various people via their call centre are all consistent. They will value the vehicle at the time of any claim and pay out based upon the market value at that time. It doesn’t matter what it’s worth today.

Regardless of what we tell NFU or whoever else what our vehicle is worth, that’s not what they’ll necessarily pay out in the event of a claim, they’ll all value it at the time of the claim.

I’m very tempted by their premium but I’d be interested to know if any Funsters have had a bad claims experience with LV=, or any claims experience at all.

Excluding special agreed price policies what you describe has always been the case.

I have had one bad experience with LV in many years of bringing customer.

At the very end of last year and the beginning of this they let me down very badly. Part of our home insurance includes "Home Emergency Cover" as a paid for extra. The idea is that within two hours of a call a tradesman (sorry person ) will tip up to effect a repair. 30th Dec 2022 our gas boiler burst its heat exchanger. Water everywhere and the house quickly became freezing. Because of the extreme weather and time of year, etc they failed to respond for over four days. Their subcontractor, when he did finally arrive, was next to useless and full of BS. I booted him out and got my own plumber in. He was brilliant, he replaced the boiler, which was 10 years old and charged fairly. I took up the matter with LV who eventually coughed up about two thirds of the replacement and labour price as a combined insurance payout and "goodwill gesture".

Most of these emergency cover add ons protect the insurance company all they do is turn up and isolate to reduce damage and larger payouts

In my case they failed miserably 🤬. Luckily I knew enough about the house system to isolate the problem and protect my property from further damage.

Years ago I had a small leak guy turned up eventually and said he'd turn off the water I said are you not going to repair. Nope just turn it off to reduce damage.
I am quiet capable of turning off the water

When do you guys ring LV? My missus has her car insured with them so we would like a quote to add the new van. She rang for 30 minutes on Friday morning before being cut off when they answered. This morning it took an hour, and again she was cut off a few seconds after someone answered.....:banghead:
We have used them for travel insurance for a long time and have had 2 good experiences with claims, but if it's this bad when you are trying to give them money, what is a claim going to be like?

Same experience here over the last week, wanted a quote but have given up on LV as have tried four times, holding for over 40 minutes each time then as soon as connected, the line went dead. Clearly they don't want any new business.

We are with LV and paying £190 this year, no idea if they are okay when you make a claim though.
We have had to make three claims in the last two years (none our fault). They are o e of the best companies I have ever dealt with. Their customer has been second-to-none on every interaction with them.

I tried an online LV quote, but it/I got confused on the vehicle chassis, it kept suggesting that it was a drop side pick up! Well I might of continued if it was similar to a Swift that kept dropping its side skirts down the bumpy A1/M.;)
I phoned and got a very courteous & professional chap, who asked me all the relevant questions on the van, storage, alarms etc. He then covered all the legal cover/break down cover options for UK & EU, lowered the excess amount to £300, Annual Mileage 4K with option to increase.

Unfortunately LV were approx £250 dearer than Comfort, so I will stay with them for yet another year(y)
PS: Comforts on-line quote was £30 dearer than phoning them up, strange, thought it would be the reverse as a lot of things are these days.

I have tried to get a valuation online but the system does not find my vehicle details - just fails
It failed for me too, doesn’t recognise the reg. However I phoned and got through quickly and received a quote straight away. I did keep asking questions and the poor woman ended up having to speak to her support team to verify that the cover was correct. It worried me because their system didn’t require any MoHo details, alarms trackers etc just the base vehicle.

I tried to get an online quote on their Motorhome quote page and failed , did’t like reg and only ducato option so will ring today.
On my renewal by another company the excess have gone to £250 for windscreen and £425 for accident which seem very high, both more than double of last year☹️

Having failed to get through to LV twice previously despite long holds, my wife reluctantly rang them again this afternoon on their "new quote" number ending 5222. After a 40 minute hold she was losing the will to live, so I rang the renewals line (ending 5111) and was answered after 4 rings. I apologised that I had rung the wrong number, but the lady happily and helpfully took me through a new quote, coming up with £292 for a new Globecar. As another funster mentioned, she was not interested in vehicle value, tracker or any details! The van went down as a 'Fiat motorcaravan'. When I mentioned our failures to get through she did say that the new quotes line is very busy!

I have just had a quote this week from them for my MH and it was the cheapest by far at £186 especially given they have previously stated that they don’t insure motorhome anymore. Quick to answer the phone and very helpful I found. I asked same questions about mods, value etc but they said they just class it as a motor caravan and as it’s got an alarm, reverse camera and dash cam that’s all they needed and immediately emailed me a quote. I already have my cars with LV so will add the MH in Sept when policy is due to to renew with Adrian Flux as it’s around £400 cheaper with LV.
