You don't need a cute dog to get people to stop and talk to you.. You just need one of these..

An English flag on your number plate, will have nearly every German, Dutch and Italian that is passing your pitch stop and chat. 99% of them trying to guess where you come from. One couple of Germans had a row inf ront of of the van about it, I had to step out and inform him that his wife was right.

If you like to meet new people, don't get a dog, get an England flag :D

Hmm. Living just on the English side of the Welsh border, not sure I want to use that one!

It always strikes me as a shame that flying the Welsh or Scottish flags is fine, but the English one has negative connotations for many. Something we need to get over.

It would be no different with UK as they would still be arguing but it would be “it’s Ukraine” “no it isn’t but I don’t know let’s ask”

We camped at many motorcycle rallies and always flew the cross of saint George, many foreigners thought we were the first aid tent. When we explained it was the flag of our country they would argue that we where wrong.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿😀😀

I lived in the centre of Welsh Nat territory for 13 years, I would invite locals up the hill for St George’s Day Drinks. Rarely did I venture into town without my England Rugby Top on. No worries (y)

I intentionally had the latest number plates made up with no country markings whatsoever, which adds to the intrigue. ;)

Or park your UK stickered van next to a French an.
He thought we were Ukrainian.
To avoid all shadow of doubt, I got round that one. ;)

In July on a site in Normandy I had just finished chatting in French to the passing site owner when a couple from a nearby pitch came over to me and the woman went into an unstoppable gush in French that she was from Kiev, had lived in France for 6 years running her own import/export business but since Brexit..... blah, blah, blah,.......and how she missed her annual trip back to visit her parents this year as her mother is in her 70's and her father had a heart problem.........blah, blah, blah. It was only when she asked me if I had family back there and stopped to take a breath that I could express how interesting that was............ and take the opportunity to explain the UK sticker on my m/h.
How we laughed.

Rarely a Dutch person passes by our bus, and doesn't smile and greet us in perfect English.
The friendliest camping nation by far.
Indeed, friendly people and they do seem to take a pride in their competence in English.
I used to work at Philips Electrical in Eindhoven. A colleague was telling me in great detail about his father's success when going out for several days at a time in his boat prawn fishing. In order to appear interested I asked him what they did with them all to which he replied with a knowing chuckle: "What can we eat and what we can't we can".

It always amuses me that although perhaps the tallest race in Europe many seem have those tiny Eriba type of caravans with a pop-up roof.
When I mentioned this to a Dutch couple with one they said it was because parking is a problem back home but they are low enough to put in a garage.

Our Saltire with Ecosse written on it below the UK sticker caused a few groups to gather too. It's a good conversation starter.

Just a discreet magnetic UK sign on the back.

No country identifier on the number plates for us.

And yes, we get lots of folk want to chat... :giggle:(y)

I used to have the English flag (3 gold lions passant) not St Georges cross on mine. No body knew what that was either.

Or go for a Welsh Dragon🤷🏻‍♂️😎👍

Not sure why but after a German couple realised we where not from the Ukraine but are actually british they suddenly stopped talking to us. Although may I say this is a very unusual situation as 99% of the time I find the German motorhomers very nice.
