yet another very expensive NEC visit...........!

Was shocked at the cost of soft drinks.

We got away unscathed.
4 coffees 14quid.
No new van this time. Or next time.
What we saw and could afford strenghtend our love for Bradley the Bailey ?

One of the advantages of staying at the event. Yes I paid for a basic spot, but didn’t have to purchase a single item of food or drink. Plus lots of free booze this visit ??????

At the Boat Show, in the good old days when it was held at Earls Court, the Guiness bar was run by a load of current an ex- Air Traffic Controllers from LHR.

Drinks were expensive - if you paid, but some of us pilots were known to them. They either pushed drinks across freely or if being watched took a tenner and the change came back as £10 in coins. Of course we did pay for some rounds.

The most 'evil' day was when several of the crew from 'Evaine'(Nicholson 12 metre Class) from when we won the Brittania Cup at Cowes, bumped into each other by accident.

At that time the Beefeater Bar was opposite the Guiness one and runners were despatched in each direction.

What a mess we were at closing time - Security had to move us on to the exits - no trouble, we all went quietly and good humouredly.

No boats were bought in the making of this story.

I`v not been for some years now. But do go to the Classic Car Show every couple of years. The food is extortionately expensive in my view and of poor to indifferent quality and drinks are worse value. I`ve taken to carrying my backpack with a few sarnies and water. I do get a free coffee on the Triumph stand though.

We took a picnic as cost us a fortune last year to eat (we do eat a lot tho (y) :giggle:). Re coffees - did anyone see that program the other night which said it costs approx. 17p per cup of coffee including milk, sugar, paper cup etc. What a markup - cheapest round our way to buy is £2.80!

... but if you add in the cost of the premises, insurance, staff, rates etc obviously it's gonna add to the cost of the cuppa.

Good job I don’t drink coffee....?

I was at Durham hospital the other day, went to the WRVS tea bar, £2.60 for a regular flat white ! given that its staffed by volunteers, I thought it a bit much. Last time (afew years ago) it was a cup of instant for a donation.
