X250 engine earth strap and failed hot start.

and if the reading stays at infinity not zero
Zero is good! it means the resistance is lower than a cheap test meter can register.
You're right, of course. My mistake,in looking for a figure to quote I didn't bother reading the text. Sorry about that. Ed.

Been out today and performed a good dozen hot starts without failure so it certainly has been a long time fault. Amen

Another update
Still 100% first time starting.
I'll be the first to post if it ever fails again, (y)

I had this problem with a Citroen Relay ... 1 year old , same engine I think, .drove 180 mile journey stopped ...seconds later it wouldn't start

RAC took off earth strap cleaned ends and refitted all ok

It would be worth soldering the ends whilst it's still clean. Copper & zinc are at opposite ends of the galvanic table - a slightly less than perfect (ie gas tight) crimp & corrosion will occur very quickly causing at best a rectifier & at worst a disconnection.

Mine are hexagonally crimped in tinned copper lugs and taped.
Tinned copper has higher conductivity as well as anti corrosive properties.

Sounds excellent - I was looking at the originals.

Yes exactly Tony
Mine is now made of insulated 70mm welding cable (left over from my solar battery bank to inverter connections)

 transits were mentioned earlier, do you know what time it is when two transits pass each other on the road ;);) tin passed tin:xshout::xshout::xshout::xshout::xshout::xshout::xshout: only joking boys happy new year,

I need a new battery starter cable for my LDV 2.5 van what size cable should I be looking for?
Went into Halfords but they said I need to go to an LDV garage..

I will tell you the weirdest problem I have come across that relates directly to what you have posted..
But first I will ask a question.
Is the Fiat gearbox bolted direct to the engine with steel bolts and making a perfectly solid connection ?

Of course it is....................
Well actually, and I have NO idea why, it isn't !!

At least three occasions I have had the issue, the most recent with a well known member of Fun.
Earth strap is perfect.. ends all clean and redone just in case
Yet would not start..
Fit another earth on the other end of the so called solid assembly and away she goes !!!!
It baffled me the first time I came across it and the two subsequent times I will admit to being equally mystified !

Ben,
Better to go to your local auto electrician.
They will have that info, have the right cable too.
More than likely cheaper than an agent.

More likely to be a poor chassis earth path? There are too many fasteners connecting engine-box-starter for a poor path through the engine/transmission assembly.

Nope.. Ask Brian ( Hilldweller ) if you do not believe me
Or perhaps he dreamed it as well or equally perhaps we are both idiots ?
