Hi all,

Well purchased a 2nd hand Ford Squire Herald CK and so far it’s been parked up. Added a few things that’s needed for us but realistically has anyone used their vans in our poor winter weather.

Love to have a weekend in West Wales but the weather is poor and by the time we’ll end up using it 6 months insurance wasted.

Sometimes I feel like Reginald Mole Husband sitting behind the wheel no where to go.

Rant over.

Regards.

Nothing to stop you using your moho year round. Make sure the heater works properly and your water tanks won’t freeze up and away you go.
There will be funsters away on skiing trips this winter in theirs (y)

Just head off. We used to love to go to seaside towns this time of year. West Wales especially you'll find plenty of empty beach side carparks, if you happen to accidentally break a bye law by parking in one over night, no one is really interested, because you're the only one there. City breaks in winter are great too, find a site a short walk/bus or cab ride from a town you fancy exploring and go for it. (y)

Go for it. I have a PVC and use it all year round. As posted above, as long as the heater works you will be fine.
I’m currently in the Peak District on a pub car park for a couple of nights (no ehu) and will be on a lovely full facilities site over Christmas. However I would suggest for a first trip you find a nice campsite with good facilities, then you won’t be put off further winter trips.

Just use it. One option if on site is keave your grey waste open and a bucket underneath to empty.
Shut the vents off in the cab area, and maybe curtains if you have them.
At Shewsbury this time last year at a fun rally, it went down to minus 12°c!

Clubs like the MCC hold many winter rallies .usually at locations like schools where you have a room for evening social meets and hardstanding parking. A good alternative if you don't want to be solo in the middle of nowhere.

Hardly Antarctica I know I but it was bl@%dy cold enough to freeze any water left outside but inside it was lovely so take plenty of gas some warm clothing and get out there (y)

We use ours all year it is never parked up for more than a couple of weeks max , go and enjoy it you dont have to even travel far if you dont want there are lots of places that have to be a change from your home location

Yeh all true words it’s that first get up and go syndrome but at this moment in time it’s tipping down and no confidence in going anywhere.

Plus purchased a cover and the vans wet and the weathers not been kind enough to dry van and stick the cover on.

See the vans looks so sad waiting for decent weather.

Don’t cover it up use it, that’s what you bought it for. A bit of cold weather never hurt anyone. Ok sun is better. This was in March it had snowed then rained then froze but nice and cozy inside.

Get going, West Wales is fantastic this time of year. Empty seasides, towns and parking.
Just got back from stormy seas and watching dolphins enjoying themselves surfacing and jumping - and that was watching them from cliffs and the coast path.
Blowing yes, little chilly yes, but lovely and cosy now back in MoHo.
Our favourite time of year - storms and all.
:xThumb:

Come on!

Trikeman ;)

No such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing (and kit)!

Unless you try it you won’t find out how suitable your kit is and what you might need to adjust to make it more comfortable next time.

then you can

Sue enjoying the sun and snow

Yes, we use ours all year round.

Pitch up, heating on, blinds closed as it gets dark, pour the wine, feet up, great.

It’s always been our opinion that a m/h is too expensive to have as an “ornament “ on the drive. Use it and don’t worry.

Just make sure that the heating is working before you go.

We went on a whistle stop trip round mid Wales at the end of last month. Purely because we’d only just bought the MH and wanted to get a shakedown trip in before the Christmas palaver set in. Had a wonderful time in a combination of CL’s and wild spots.
Just do it. As long as the heating works and you’ve got waterproofs and wellies you’ll be fine.
And if you come anywhere near Tenby give us a shout!

Tend not to use ours in December as too busy with the c stuff, but come January we will have itchy feet again. February we will be on what has become our annual expedition for a month of playing with our adopted son's child whilst his maternal grandparents are away.

Yep as others been out in the snow, funniest was Oxford. Site frozen up and happened to be in the office/shop when a guy came in to complain about frozen taps. Warden said well the one outside the office was ok when you arrived should have filled up then!

Just wrap up and make sure the heater works and min temp doesn't drop below 4'C in van & water systems

Oh and pack decent water proof coats etc. to enjoy Britain in any conditions

Just packed our van to go for to a friend's birthday party in Wiltshire. Weather forecast for tomorrow not very nice and expect we'll have a bumpy ride across the Solent from IOW but that doesn't put us off. Looking forward to going as our first outing for a while. We go away all year round and have a great time. Hope you have many happy times in your van

Hi 2spritelyislanders.

Where you too in Wilts?

My friend has virtually the same van as that.
For the last two years he has taken it to the alps for the winter season to live in whilst training to be a ski instructor.
Unfortunately the photos are on a different computer of it under 8 ft of snow.

Just under two weeks till we head off to the Black Forest Germany for our Xmas break. They all good all year round, even in the white stuff.

Still looking for a manual if anyone has one spare or even a copy will do.

I’ll see what the other half says she’s not a foul cold weather person to be honest so the first trip out will be on a whim.

Regards,

B

If you add your location to your profile, people may be able to suggest nearby places to try :xThumb:

Buy bits to leave in the mh. Kitchen stuff, bedding, toiletries then all you need to do is fill water, fridge on, clothes in and off you go. Try and get in the habit of using it. When I worked I would be off on a friday and back Sunday. I would always find somewhere to camp.

West wales (six miles inland from Tenby where we live ) is windy and raining right now but not particularly cold for the time of year.
A good time to visit , try not to pick a parking spot thats high up though.........,,
Wild camping won’t be a problem this time of year either I wouldn’t expect as many of the enforcement staff are seasonal.

We go all year, presently in Southport, didn’t get hardly any sleep due to gales last night, loving every minute. We always take a small lowish wattage electric radiator as back up. So if your heating system is a bit dubious, the like of B &M sell them. Do need to be on a site with leccy, which I would advise for your first outing to shake down leccy system, unless of course you’ve lots of solar and battery power.
