On my last trip, I was approaching Ullapool and a car came round a bend, at speed, out of control and on my side of road, and too close for comfort and almost had a head on. I got a glancing blow and he took off the wing mirror with a side swipe. Anyways, just very glad to have walked away. All repaired now and the other party coughed up.
However the temperature sensor does not now work on the dash so either it is not connected, or not in the replacement wing mirror. i can extract the sensor and it’s connector from the old mirror. I would imagine it to be near impossible to thread this into the new mirror. If I can find the socket in amongst the door panel electrics, could I just dangle the sensor inside the door somewhere to get an adequate reading. . .

I cannot help on your question.

But why do the manufacturers make things so complicated with indicator lights and temperature sensors in mrrors, unless of course to put up the profits on spares - on the most vulnerable parts of the vehicle.

I have none of that unwanted junk on my 2003 model. My indicator lights are on the body and I know when it is cold on the mirror, because it gets ice or condensation. KISS

Suggest you take your old mirror apart, and extract the temperature sensor, which is presumably missing on your new mirror. It should be a simple matter to mount it in the new mirror, and make it as fully functional as the demolished old one. I did this with my last motorhome, and some pattern wing mirrors that did not come with the “bells and whistles” of the originals, and it all seemed to work fine, and saved me a fortune!!
