There is a small chip in my moho windscreen, near the bottom right hand corner. About the size of a thumbnail, caused by a flying stone. It doesn't affect my vision of the road ahead. The MOT man recommended it be fixed, but passed it all the same. Can someone recommend a method of "fixing" this without replacing the windscreen. Please don't just keep saying "replace the windscreen". Once is funny, twice is boring.

Just ring your insurance company most chips are repaired free of charge

See if a windscreen repairer can do a repair.
It may be too big but worth a try.
Your insurer will foot the bill if you use their specific repairer.
If you don't get it fixed it may turn into a crack.

Most windscreen replacement companies, like Autoglass, will do a repair. Some sort of plastic stuff gets injected onto the chip. I've had it done on a standard car, some bloke in the local Tesco had a stand and it took about 15 minutes. Once done, I had to really look to see the very very slight difference in the glass.

For MOT there are different size of chip and locations that would create a fail. Main thing is if it is in front of the driver's vision area, then the swept area, then the remainder of the screen.

If not repaired, there is a risk the chip can develop into a crack.

I had a chip last year very close to the bottom edge of the screen. I got autoglass in via the insurers to have a look, seemed best to have someone else have a look and advise. The man from Autoglass specials division was excellent, certainly well acquainted with motorhomes.

Advice as as above.....take it to a windscreen repair company and they will tell you if it is repairable or if a replacement is needed.....either way should all be done through your insurance company if windscreen damage is covered.

I had a couple of chips repaired on my A Class screenthrough insurance, when the Auto glass came out again he tried a repair but claimed the crack had widened during the repair and would need a new screen . This is contracted out by Autoglass and another company contacted me and arranged fitting in my drive , what I didn’t realise was that they do not change the rubber surround when fitting . The motorhome is kept in a barn and was not used until the following winter and on the way down to Portugal/Spain after a bit of rain ,water seemed to be leaking from the radiator , after some investigation I found that the sound proofing material on top of the engine was sodden and dripping down . When I checked around the rubber on the screen water poured out and large gaps evident under the rubber . I got a windscreen guy in Spain to reseal the rubber and it’s been fine since . Just make sure a new rubber is included with a new screen

You can buy kits of all that you need to do your own repair - think I paid about £15 a couple of years ago. It is within the skills of any competent DIYer and I fixed a stone chip outside of the swept area to a very good standard. Didn’t even get a mention on subsequent MOTs! (y)
