Getting the hang of it
Mrs C as been badgering me to have a wind out awning fitted, after a bad experience with a caravan awning which I put away damp and it went mouldy do wind out awnings have to be dried before being wound up or can they be wound up wet and forgotten about.

Wound up wet if unavoidable but later unwound to dry.
In my experience.
The marterial on our Fiamma is a plasticised fabric so mold rot could be the issue if no fairly prompt action is taken.

You can wind up we but its advisable to unwind and air it as soon as you can.
Also, if you wind up wet and it has leaves or the like on it they can stain the fabric.

I was hoping that would be the answer as we store the van away from home drying it out would be a problem.
I don't want one fitting very expensive loss of payload etc this will give me ammunition to argue against getting one although I think I may lose the argument she can be quite persuasive.

Brian on RV with Tito on YouTube spays his with a mild bleach solution and winds it up to clean it.
If it’s wet before we wind ours in I drop the legs to the minimum so most of it runs off.
Then we’ve got a squeegee on a pole that can reach most of it.

Waste of money and payload, inferior quality cheap trash, tissue paper springs to mind.

Our Fiamma sometimes gets a bit wet when rolled up anyway so not such an issue storing it wet although it aint recommended.

It has had absolutely no effect on any of the four I've had other than to cause discolouration that can be ignored for as long as you wish then cleaned off. I have never wound mine out in an attempt to dry it. The material isn't in any way absorbent and is at least as robust as the stuff used for truck curtain sides.

I've always wound my awning when still wet. It's easy and takes but a minute or two to unwind it later to dry (even if only for fifteen or twenty minutes) when there's break in the rain. Unpacking and finding a way to hang up my son's wet and heavy caravan awning is a PITA.

Exactly what happened to us, any advice on how to get the stains out? We can put ours away dry but if it rains as we are travelling or parked at home it still gets wet.

Unfortunately I have not yet successfully removed the stains, and I have tried a few things.
The cassette is not sealed when closed and the aperture has a rib facing upwards so an amount of water getting in is almost inevitable.

Never dried ours before or after putting it away, never washed it either. Plenty of times it's been rolled up wet.

A camper ain't a camper without a winding handling awning thingy:LOL:

We’ve had one on our last two vans. I’m unsure I’d bother with another. we get tetchy when the wind puffs! We watch others they seem to be still, our flaps about as if in a tornado! However we do it to attach our air awning to it.

Had 4 motorhomes, all with wind-out awnings
Only wound out a total of 4 times ……..but we only were in uk

Always use ours . Especially abroad to shade the side of the van. We always use storm strap to secure it whenever its out takes five minutes.
On site last year a Spanish rental moho had theirs ripped off not strapped down.

The plasticky ones are handy to keep the rain off or sun.
Wind back in when wet no prob. If you can wind out again when convenient to dry off that's good.
Used our Fiamma a lot. Wouldn't be without one.

Maybe BUT bleach will degrade the waterproofing

WE buy a proofing kit with cleaner every couple of years and then clean it let it dry then proof it
IF we have to put the awning away wet we just make sure we dry it within a few days

The material on ours does seem to be more "plasticised" than our old caravan awning and takes less time to dry

I have used this before, isn't bad stuff. but a clean with washing up liquid and water does us
