I'm looking for Wifi whilst on the road - any suggestions for the best equipment to have installed?

for a DIY job I believe a pointing aerial and tel toning router will be recommended on here.

Yes, I also have a Poynting aerial on the roof, and a Teltonika RUTX11 router. Others have used the less expensive RUT950 or the more expensive RUTX12.

Lots of threads on mifi and mobile wifi. I am befuddled by it all - the kit is one thing, finding a suitable sim data plan is another. I wish you luck with both!

Do you mean WiFi? I think you'll find it a pretty poor return. I have seen unencrypted sites all over the place but the service provided is not worth the trouble. If you're looking for free internet, I'd forget it.
Spend your money on a better mobile contract instead.
