Over this last month or so we have had various posts about campsites.
In no particular order.
Folks walking past your van.
People whistling.
Kids playing.
Dogs barking.
Dogs shitting.
Dogs on long leads.
Dogs with no leads.
People playing music after 10 pm.
People making a noise having breakfast outside.
Folks using the wrong emptying hole.
Folks using the wrong hose.
Whoosh bang doors.
Folks running over your hook up cable.
Wardens.
Vans parking in your view.
Grey dribbling.
Arriving and leaving times.
And loads more I can't think of at the moment.
Now the question is why do we hear of people paying upwards of £45 a night for these dubious pleasures?

Because as a novice motorhomer, and a solo female traveller, it feels safer.

I would not pay £45 a night! I have a 16 night trip booked, a mix of CAMC, CCC and independents, and the total cost is around £350 off the top of my head. Mix of grass and hardstanding, all with EHU. Nowhere near £45 a night...

Almost exclusively we use sites.
Just like it.
Been on very few naff ones. Some have brilliant facilities, bars, entertainment. Nice to get great location we prefer the coast.
Met some lovely interesting people.
Add the odd rubbish pitch or place so just move on. Still in search of the best site ever.
I guess the feeling of security works for us although hardly ever think about it.
Each to his her own!
Choice and freedom.
Long may it reign.

Don't these things happen to everyone everywhere on occasion; campsite, aire, wild, CS, CL...?
We always select remote spots and are rarely disturbed by any one else.
That's the magic of being a FLT.
My wife hates being woken up in the morning - except by birdsong.

If you go out looking for something to moan about, you'll always find it. Some of the "moaners" do so without a shred of self reflection as to how their own habits might be really annoying to others. The thing is, camping on sites in all its forms is basically a social activity and that means it won't always be as you would ideally want it. You can always move on . . . . but we've never been anywhere (from good old Eurocamps back in the '80s to aires en route from Biscarosse last year) that we've felt that necessary).

We have a 5 week trip coming up, a pub stop for a night on the way to a club site for 3 nights (it's where we want to be) then a THS for a few nights on Windsor racecourse, over (actually under) the water and it will be aires and stellplatz for 3 weeks closely followed by a couple of nights on a club site close to a friend we want to visit and most likely another pub stop on the way home, I would be very reluctant to pay £45 a night and certainly won't be this trip and never have, the "free" pub stop will most likely be the most expensive ;)

There are loads of options out there now so just make them work for you.

This was a genuine question, I wasn't knocking anyone, just the fact that the ones who go to sites and then complain about what you know happens .
We sometimes use a site if they are cheap but in no way would I complain about what I expect to happen.

All the things you have mentioned could just as easy be found on a free stop over in any country.
We use a combination of both but if staying more than a day or so like a site as I can set up the cooker, table and chairs and we can sit outside without van’s constantly moving around and kicking up dust in some cases😁
Also on a lot of sites you do get nice big pitches not someone touching your van out their window

I love campsites, I just love camping wether it's in my MH tents or caravan. Some of the CACC sites are a bit pompous with they nonsensical rules but I still like them. I always go to sites where kids and dogs are aloud they tend to keep the moaners, complainers and joy sappers away.

WHY chaser are you thinking of using them yourself ?

To relax

I cant be arsed scrounging water from places, always looking for somewhere to dump the waste, living with the blinds up, being looked at by locals suspiciously as I could be a gypsy wondering what I’m up to

I‘m in France, door open, awning out, table and chairs out from last nights BBQ, the BBQ which I’ll probably fire up shortly to cook some bacon on for our breakfast, I didn’t have to put it all away last night, otherwise I probably wouldn’t bother

Don‘t mind overnighting for a reason, a town I want to visit or en route, especially motorway services and Aires (which are not dangerous 🙄) but I do despair some time the dusty shitty places people have holed themselves up in just to save a few quid

But each to their own.

our thoughts too.

also, and this will annoy some, SWMBO won't use the toilet in the van. So we always stay where there are such facilities.

We’re going to a whoosh bangers convention in a couple of weeks to Bala lake with the T6 forum including 30 plus like minded whoosh bangs. 🤫

John.
What would be a good noun for a collective of whoosh bangers l wonder.

An orchestra if you are one? Or a cacophony if you are not? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

A campsite is sometimes better when you have small children with you although there are CLs / CSs / BritStops with interesting things for children. We stayed at an Owl Sanctuary once and would love to take the eldest Grandson there.

I've stayed at some way out wild sites ..some.rurla wild sites..and some lovely camp sites.

The only thing pretty much guaranteed is camp site won't get you boy racers or general twits at midnight and make you feel like driving off.

Short answer...security.

My view on this ,in about 12 years we have parked on sites, Aires, wild, France passion, britstops, just a pub stop anywhere, and in all that time I have never felt the need to come on here and complain about anything, just live and let live, if you don't like it you have wheels just move.
And I am supposed to be the grumpy old bugger on here.
