Being ancient and confined to domestic barracks, we decided to order our food to be delivered, which can be a palaver.

When I first started looking for someone to deliver, I tried Sainsburys. After several attempts either I was not up to it, or their computer had gone down.
Next I tried Morrisons who had a waiting to make contact system. As there were 20,000+ in front of me (really) I gave up.
Iceland was next on my list and to my surprise, I found it very easy to use until I tried to book a delivery time. None available for the week but as we had already listed what we wanted, on Sunday morning we checked again and all delivery times were available so we booked Monday morning, expecting a catch. There was no catch, although a couple of items were not available. Excellent!
My wife, wanting the missing items tried Morrisons again and yes again there was a queue of about 20,000 which took around 10 minutes to clear. She wrote her order which was to be delivered in about three weeks time. We waited but tried Iceland again for an interim delivery. A couple of things not in stock but delivered a couple of days after ordering, a bit too soon really but excellent again.
The Morrisons delivery eventually arrived with several things missing, some replaced by unsuitable things, where their choice of wines was not ours and I do not know why we got children's yogurts. No print out to check what we had. Never again.
We are back with Iceland because they have proved to be excellent each time.
Why am I excited by all this? These are the only vans that come near us during our lock-down and I look forward to them coming.

We have used Iceland twice now and had no issues, excellent service imo. You can fill your basket out of hours, as it were, and book a delivery slot once the shop is open. If you try to book outside shop hours all slots are shown as full. (y)

We are using Morrisons and have no problem in getting a weekly slot. We have had three deliveries to date with a delivery booked for the next three weeks.
The only problem we have is that there is always something that we ordered that is missing or substituted on the order. It is getting better each week as the last one had only 5 items missing but on the first delivery there were about 10.
They always send an email on the day of delivery telling you what’s missing or substituted.

Iceland seemS easiest for me to get a delivery slot. They release slots throughout the day rather than all at once and you can only book up to 4 days ahead so you don’t end up in the situation like with Tesco that if you win the lottery and get a slot its probably 3 weeks away!
the problem with Iceland is that they don’t have a very good selection of fresh fruit and veg. They also have very limited range so if they are out of stock of something they don’t have an alternative to replace it with.
in the last 6 weeks of trying here are our results of trying to get deliveries: ASDA nil, Morrison's nil, Tesco 1, Sainsbury’s nil, Iceland 5.

Sainsburys contacted me by e mail around five weeks ago offering me reserved green delivery slots kept open to vulnerable folk , perhaps age or something, anyway have had weekly deliveries with no problems since, excellent service.

None of it is easy but persistence pays dividends. Now on our 3rd delivery from Waitrose. The first one takes a bit of effort but get that one ordered then straight on with the next order before the first one arrives. Before you know it you will have a regular booking for each week. As far as the service, it is excellent. They give you a time slot they are always on time and the staff couldn't be nicer. They guarantee that all goods will have a good sell-by date and the quality of the good is second to none.(y)

Before lockdown we always went with Tesco but then it was difficult to get slots for past few weeks been using Asda and last one is on Monday. We now have a couple Tesco slots for mid May. I've been happy with both.

I have not had deliveries from supermarkets for years but when one of neighbours said they were impossible to get I was up for the challenge ?
Sainsburys was a non starter as we are not in their criteria for home deliveries
Morrisons.......just gave up trying on their system
Tesco was really easy and they release slots at random times as well so you can book a slot 3 weeks in advance but might also get a slot 48 hours away
Iceland was tricky because you had to keep checking the website to get a slot
Asda we only got click and collect which was funny because they had less idea how it worked than we did and I couldn't understand people turning up at 6pm for an 8pm slot , what's that all about?

I will state that as soon as I got a slot I contacted all our neighbours/friends to see if they wanted anything which led to some massive deliveries....even with the 80 item rule... ?

I find it odd that there is still a queue outside our local aldi and tesco metro at least 40 minutes before they open ? and yet when I go in evening everything I need is there.........what is so scarse first thing? Or are people so bored they just go and queue

Only one so far i have managed to get is Morrison's and it has been rubbish of 37 items ordered I got 11 first time, second time we got a few more, no substitutions except tonic was not low calorie and dill was dried not live and i already had dried.
However, being a glutton for punishment, or an eternal optimist, have booked another slot, when I ordered there was no meat at all apart from burgers liver and mince, fish choice was dire too, will look nearer the time and see what they have then, never know this coming week might be my lucky one.
I get my fruit and veg from somewhere which I learned about on fun, had one delivery of excellent top quality ultra fresh fruit and veg. Have done a choose your own rather than the set box this week, not cheap but good quality stuff.
Morrison's sent me a voucher after I complained, not recognised when I put it in as part payment. Three stores equi-distant so don't know which one our stuff comes from.
Might try for an Iceland one, now I know that you get the slots during opening hours.

Now on our 3rd delivery from Waitrose. They give you a time slot they are always on time and the staff couldn't be nicer. They guarantee that all goods will have a good sell-by date and the quality of the good is second to none.(y)
Can't get a slot with anybody. We usually shop M&S and Waitrose. We've never heard from M&S. Waitrose send lots of jolly perk-you-up emails about the wonderful things they have in but we have found getting a delivery to be impossible. However our daughter(bless her heart) waited up till midnight and got a click and collect. We gave her our order and she collected. One item was missing but charged. One item was meant to be about £12 but was about 50% more than expected. OK it's to do with weight but 50%! Luckily she saw this one and cancelled it. Some items weren't available. Some items were incredibly short dated and we just couldn't use them all in the time. They have refunded the problem items, but the palaver wasn't worth it. Perhaps Buttons the delivery service is better but I doubt that I'll ever know.

Been bit lucky. Managed a Tesco click and collect, and lo and behold today came up with Sainsgogs click and collect for Friday. Result...... Not a scaredy-cat but feel very uncomfortable footling about wit( people simply reaching across you for stuff. I use the local Co-op for a lot of things as well

Had no issues with Iceland dated items, we haven't ordered any frozen items as yet. Bread, milk, sliced ham, fresh tomatoes, scones bread rolls, fruit drinks, all had good use by dates. No substitutes except for an order of 4 pork pies sub to 6 pork pies.
24 pack of toilet rolls, I wouldn't have wanted to carry home due to its sheer bulk. Added bread and milk for a neighbour as can change the order up to 11pm the night before. Only a couple of items cancelled, but not essential. There is a50p charge for bags but not limited to how many bags and they are big bags, quite useful. No charge on an order over £35 and a £2 charge if over £25.
Items not always the cheapest but its swings and roundabouts, saved me going out, no petrol and no hassle. (y)

Have tried all sainsbury's 0 Iceland 0 asda 0 tesco 1 and this was at 1-30am!!! Morrisons 3 only once have they had missing items but might try Iceland again for a small shop but try during the day rather than at night.

We have been using Tesco, but delivery slots are like hens teeth. From what has been already said availability, in relation to demand, must vary widely from area to area

Never had home deliveries before lockdown. Now used both Asda and Tesco and been happy with both.....no real issues.
Swmbo misses the actual shopping experience though?

I’ve had a Sainsbury’s delivery every week. I’m not sure how, we are both over 70 but I don’t know how Sainsbury’s work that out. We have no serious health problems other than age catching up.
They don’t have flour, but other than that we sometimes get substitutes, it doesn’t matter we just eat whatever arrives. I’m still managing to put weight on!!!

One of my neighbours said age is known from nectar card details, not sure if that's true or not

I was listening to Radio 4 and there is another way to get Home deliveries

We used BidFood the local delivery truck had broken down and a 40ft arctic turned up !

BidFood supply retraunts and Schools etc so they normally deal in Bulk but have scaled some of the products for home deliveries ?

I’m not staying this link is the best but if your struggling to get deliveries it should help.

I'll tell you what I do violet, I sign in to the site, I check some weeks into the future if necessary. When I find a vacant slot I book it and select two bottles of £40 Champaign you need a minimum of £60 to book a slot. I then do the check-out so this slot is mine then look for another a bit later. I then have time to book what I want then cancel the Champaign if necessary but don't forget to do this or you will end up with a hangover.

Thank you - very handy website - we've registered with a couple of companies from there as always handy to have more than one food delivery option at the moment (y) Will pass on to friends & family too.

? agreed it is a useful website some of the providers are maxed out but there are others that can deliver. We got to this site as a program on radio 4 mentioned FWD.com. Hope it helps everyone who needs it.

The Waitrose site is very frustrating. Once you’ve got your first delivery it may open up a longer window of opportunities for delivery but it’s getting that first slot that’s the problem. The first “window” is only for a week and the first two days constantly says fully booked and the next 5 unavailable. I’m happy to go out shopping but I thought if we were ill I ought to have a system in place.

I can’t even register with the other supermarkets due to demand!

I had that and then was told they don't deliver out here (even though it is our nearest supermarket and they have delivered to neighbours).

I am in the shielding group but have to do click and collect which does concern me.

If you haven’t already have a look at the local food drops I posted earlier. It may help...it may not but we did find it was a great alternative for click and collect etc

:( :( :( (20 mile radius)

Sorry we have no results for your search, we are constantly looking for Local Suppliers, in the mean time have you seen our National Delivery Suppliers

The supplied and delivered basic food parcels we are supposed to get do not cater for medical (or religious) diets - I am one of the Resillient Communities Volunteers and I know thay are not supposed to do anything for special diets as it invalidates the insurance. I have written to the Scottsh Minister for Health for her comments ..... it's not possible to shield at home when there is no support system in place.

Tesco's are best for us a present, we regularly used all the mainstream online supermarkets up until the restrictions, now Asda's are impossible to get a slot, Sainsbury's wont' let us get a slot with a message we stating aren't recognised as vulnerable, which is fair enough, and Morrisons to be fair have only recently set up online deliveries in this area, so probably not up to speed with vehicles, drivers etc.

Waitrose regularly place more slots on their site, the trick is to know when these new slots are available. My method is that my brother phones me and tells me (y) , Not sure how he finds out but it will be from information published by Waitrose.
