Just wanted to know if you’re going to Spain this September what are you doing about travel insurance

I would imagine travel insurance will be hard to get because Spain is on the list of country's the FCO has declared " essential travel only"

A few people have mentioned this company who are, apparently, covering for CV19 to countries not on the FO safe list. I imagine the premiums will reflect the risk.
Safe travels if you go.👍

The acid test will be if anyone who took out this Battleface travel insurance after 20 July is going to claim for Covid-related loss, due to France being taken off the UK's airbridge list, therefore having to Q14 or make emergency travel arrangements. Awaiting online reviews with interest.

It’s not much different for us living here in Spain and would like to be elsewhere. I checked with our travel insurance and they will not provide us with any cover relating to the virus if we go beyond Spanish borders. So staying put for now whilst it’s the annual Spanish holidays and we’ll review the situation in September and then may have a few weeks away elsewhere in Spain. I think I feel more comfortable staying in my home country at the moment as much as I would love to be in France.

Your EHIC should cover you till the end of December.
we have just renewed ours they arrived in 5 days with a note saying to look on the government website for their use after 31 dec

We were going in October, but John doesn't want to go, so we will be staying in the uk. Our travel insurance covers us Provided the country is not on the FOs 'essential travel only' list so we would have EHIC cover only. Will change tunnell to similar time next year, campsite also if we can.

I know that if a country is designated by the FCO as "essential travel only", this will negate any travel Insurance , unless you are already there, but how does it impact on Vehicle Insurance? If I did travel to France or Spain at the moment in the knowledge that It was essentail travel only and I took the risk of not having travel insurance other than the EHIC what would happen if I were to be involved in an accident and where would I stand with my vehicle insurance, especially if I had paid for a green card?

Used to go Oct till March, last year it was down to 3 months leaving here Boxing Day, this year looks doubtful if we will bother at all as not worth the risk.

Vehicle insurance shouldn't be affected as it can't 'catch' CV, if your vehicle needed to be brought home (accident/breakdown etc) the vehicle breakdown cover would look after that but if YOU need repatriation for anything (ie illness etc) it would be your travel insurance that covered that.

That's what we've done, we had Kiko Park booked. They were very good and offered either 90% refund on our deposit or we could carry over the booking for next year. We've chosen the latter option.

Yes! We depart 20th September, Portsmouth to Bilbao.
We we’re both due to take early retirement in May and start our mega road trip then but for obvious reasons, carried on working. I retired last week and Mr B at the end of this month.
Vehicle insurance as far as I’m aware isn’t affected by covid and EHICs valid til year end. Still researching additional travel insurance however expensive ..... as a possible belt and braces.
Call us crazy, mad, stupid, whatever. The only thing that will stop us, is what stopped us in May - borders closing! xx

The EHIC is okay but it doesn’t cover any additional costs like repatriation to the UK, if you needed it or you needed to get back for a relative or additional costs for anybody to stay with you etc etc but as long as you are happy with the homework you have been done good luck to you and enjoy.

My brother in law had three strokes whilst on holiday in Spain. He was flown home on life support, all courtesy of their holiday insurance. It does colour your view somewhat, when a member of your family has been through something like that.

Thanks pandas - we will do our best :giggle:
138go - we know all too well the pitfalls. My sister in law died suddenly while on holiday in Cadiz this time last year. Horrendous time! All the more reason to not let anything get in our way (y) xx

One of our favourite areas stayed on the aire type bit outside last year, unlimitted electric and very hot so could run the fan to keep cool.
love the walk into Oliva for shopping and the market and the lovely walks along the beach.

If you're planning on going to Spain in September, then have a check online regards lockdown in Spain.
I have read in Euro news that Spain is planning a full 3 stage lockdown starting on 18th September which includes closing the borders to France and Portugal (and Italy apparently 🤔)
We're hoping to get to Portugal before they close the borders and stay for the duration. 😁

Have you got a link to this? Thinking of changing from France to Spain now we have to Q14 from either.

Certainly got more opportunities; Spain 115., UK18.6 per 100k

Where can you find daily new cases in Spain, they have been missing from the world corona meters for a few days.

Do not bank on going there at all, plan, but not buy tickets until you are sure it is happening.
The so call plandemic is planned to have a second rising and will probably be a second total Europe lockdown, only without the number of deaths. This is a political move and will be here as well, all the signs are being put in place for it.
Get your food supplies in, and any fuels you might need if power fails this time.
Don't ask who said. they will not say.

I think we will give Spain a miss this year , we normally go for 8 weeks in Oct/earlyDec. We were going to travel around for a month and then a month on Villasol in Beni but we really don’t fancy being in lockdown in a 6.3m PVC for 8weeks suddenly somewhere. We’d go mad. We have a big house, friends, golf, gym so things to do in the UK. The chance of better weather isn’t worth it for us at the moment.

I know the medical care is good in Spain but if one of us was ill I want to be able to communicate with the doctors and other staff if it’s me and I know Nick would if it was him. It’s bad enough understanding regional accents when you’re ill but in full PPE, my basic Spanish which is only of use for a bit of shopping and directions would make the experience even more terrifying.

Some of us are just more risk averse than others. There is no right or wrong answer.
