River mint in Kendal
 
Dippers are just gorgeous.
Seen them in many places: eg Hawkshead, centre of Inverness, and here on the R. Snizort.
 
Never understood how they hang on in a fast flowing river - underwater as well !
 
They use their wings I believe. They face the flow and use their wings as reverse airfoils to press themselves against the steam bed. Don't know how they go downstream, suspect that they don't!

Having watched this one for about half an hour it only put its head in to the flow
 
I believe they are classed as song birds 🙂👍 we have a few places we always expect to see them on our travels
