Having decided that we want to sell the van due to the next year being difficult for us with moving house etc, we need to sell it via the best platform.

We originally thought about Ebay as there are plenty of motorhomes advertised, but there is also Gumtree.

Are there any others which would be sensible to use as we've not sold a vehicle privately before.

Just beware of the scammers and chancers. I used eBay to sell our caravan under the classifieds system. Cost me £30.

I did get some real jokers though, one wanted me to knock a grand off the already good price and deliver it 200 miles away. 😂😂

Did they do the jangling of the keys saying that they are leaving now ?

He didn’t even see it, wanted me to just agree a price and drive it to him. Like, erm, no! 🤷‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Sold my previous one via eBay classifieds it was also advertised in this site, see 'Previously' below. No problem, great couple bought it and we are still in contact with them. I've sold others in the past via word of mouth and my own website over the past 20+ years.

It's always worth selling it here first. As soon as you go public on the big sites, Auto-trader, fb, eBay etc you'll increase the ratio of genuine buyers but run the risk of attracting a lot of scammers and scum too.

Ive sold literally hundreds on gumtree and ebay ...gumtree first option as its free and national

Always used ebay and added conditions such as ...No Dealers, Auction to run its course so no Buy it Now Price, No Paypal {commission too much}, No Time Wasters etc. Never had a problem selling caravans and motorhomes. Also don't be tempted to take much lower offers than you planned to as you will still be getting phone calls from interested parties after you've sold it. When people say they want it , take a deposit off them as they often change their minds. Had a guy came all the way from London I took £250 off him as a deposit when he decided not to buy it he told me to keep the deposit. Good luck.

Assuming you're not in too much if a hurry to sell, I would try an advert on here first - least hassle option

Then go for Gumtree - it's free - but make sure you check any potential buyer out carefully. Worth reading up online to be aware of potential scam, but don't get paranoid

After that, Ebay - once again, read up/research potential scams

I have bought and sold vehicles on Gumtree & Ebay without hassle by just being sensible...

more and more on face book market which is also free

Gumtree tends to be the best place although we have used Ebay also, but with Autotrader it was a waste of money as we got no interest for the same vehicle on all platforms.

Just be prepared for all the idiots who'll contact as well as the 'ambulance chasers' when you put your phone number on Gumtree ... you'll usually get 3 or 4, the first being within minutes of your ad going live!

Almost worth getting a pay as you go phone to save the hassle of having your number out there
You can get a free sim from Three and stick that in an old phone (so long as it's not an old 2G one).

We thought about selling, but might hang on another year, Perhaps a dealer is easiest, I know of one that charges £5k. PM if you would like more info

I never put my phone number on Gumtree

I use my email address, Gumtree does not show the email address but forwards emails to it

That way, I can ignore emails from the idiots and reply to the ones that seem genuine asking for their contact number which I then call with my number withheld

Not had any issues with additional spam or unwanted calls

I will add, that when selling my VW T5, I mentioned to my neighbour that someone was coming to view at 10 o'clock the next morning, he took it upon himself to be 'washing his car' at that time - he is an ex bailiff, so not a person to argue with!
The delightful, middle aged couple that came to view (& bought it) didn't cause any trouble🙂

I've sold both our motorhomes on Gumtree very quickly and without trouble. However, there are a lot of people out there with no intention to buy who seem to enjoy pressing the 'Is this still available' button!

We sold on eBay it’s £19.95 for classified add with no other eBay fees.
We sold in two days of placing add.

Thank you for all the replies, gives us something to think about!

That's what I do now when I put ads on Gumtree, no phone number so no numpties calling! :giggle:

When we sold our scooter I put on the Gumtree ad for people not to bother to make silly offers ... so of course some idiot came back and said he'd give us £500 less than we were asking for it and come straight round ... yeah of course he would if we'd been stupid enough to take it!

What’s a time waster is that someone who offers a stupid amount.

what do you think a 2018 Bailey Autograph 75-2 is worth for selling top of the range loads of extras, general idea please

I sold our 2016 Bessacarr 424 on Facebook had it two years and lost £1000, it sold within 24 hours to a lovely couple who were first time owners.

£5k sounds extortionate to me! I thought selling yachts was expensive enough... Brokers typically charge around 8% but i sold mine through a broker earlier this year for 7%....

Sold mine on Facebook lovely couple came first camper gave them a few extras they kept i touch with me i was happy so was they
