Hi all. Just back from Spain and noticed a lot of mopeds on the back of Motorhomes. Thought this was a great idea as some of the sites we stayed on were quite remote. Any suggestions on which moped would be ideal for a couple to stick on the back of our Bessacarr E480? I know weight will be an issue but this would give us so much more freedom once on site. Much appreciated.

You could buy a new 50 cc scooter from one the scooter warehouses for about £1400, run it for 3 years till mot time sell it for half and it will have cost about a fiver a week

If weight is an issue Suzuki address 110cc. 98kg 9bhp

If not so much an issue Honda SH125 mode 113kg 12bhp

Or if you can stretch to 150kg KTM Duke 390. 149kg dry, 44bhp 🤩

Good lord that’s cheap and in fact cheaper than a decent EBike , what do you need as a license ? Tia

Only a car license with L plates for solo test if taking a passenger.

Ha ha. Thanks guys. Looks like I am not the only one thinking about this. Guess I am going shopping. Oh, and I’ll need a rack for the rear of the Motorhome.

I'm pretty sure if you passed your car test a while ago it includes a full moped license no need for l plates and I think covers taking a passenger.
I passed my car test in 1988, to ride my 125 I had to pass CBT, still display L plates and no pillion passenger.

You can take a passenger on a 50cc with an older car licence and I don't think you need to do the cbt. (they are that slow you basically don't need anything 🤣)

I have Honda Wave 110i , which is just about capable enough 2 up. I have fitted some trail tyres to make it work on unsurfaced roads as well. For the ladies, it's a much more elegant experience as it's a step through, especially with the top box fitted, which also makes a handy back rest. It weighs in a just over 100kg, and will go through a 1050mm door opening, with the fold down mirrors fitted. I actually bought this quite a while before we got the motorhome, as that was it's ultimate purpose.Cheap to run and tax and insure. Slightly more " Scroat " proof as less desirable than other bikes.
The photos show the bike recently in Scotland, and loaded in the garage of our 6.9 Sunlight 3,700 kg.
You may have go for a chassis upgrade if you want cycles as well, as we did, but the PLG is a lower road fund bracket, swings and roundabouts though!!
Mike.

We’ve got a Honda Vision 110cc. Two up it will sit comfortably at 50mph on level but will slow on hills. We tend to plan routes to avoid ‘main’ roads and stick to lower speed roads!

Park up on site and use scooter to go to local places we want to visit. Easier to drive in towns and much easier to park!

If you have chassis extensions on rear of vehicle you will need to check if they are suitable to take weight of a rack/bike as you may need to upgrade them.

We've got the Vision too, been reliable had it 6 years now. The Suzuki Address has got a kick start though so I would go for that now. A scooter can't be bump started so a kick start is a valuable addition IMO

But it's not a moped!

We have one of these. Only ways about 70KG. More power/weight than a petrol moped. Cost £1500 brand new. Downside? Limited miles. Officially about 40 to a charge but 2 up it is a lot less and in practice 1 up its around 30. Depends on how fast you go/hills etc. I think one or two of their other models have a slightly bigger battery so may go a little further. Charges off a standard mains plug. Limited to 30mph but I know the trick to unlimit it so it will do up to 45 with the wind behind you!

Range here:

This is what you need:

<Broken link removed>

8000 watts of sheer terror ( it even has pedals to avoid tax & insurance etc etc)

Honda PCX 125. We've used this on both our m'homes, on rack and now in the garage. Great scooter with room under seat and a top box for shopping or to store your helmets when you want to wander round a town etc. You need to check the weight you can hang off the back.

But no passengers.BUSBY.
No it's the 125 bikes where passengers aren't allowed without a bike licence. Our friends bought a 50cc for the van and the dealership said it was OK... Unless they were fibbing 😂

I think the dealers right I'm pretty sure I got given a full moped license when I took my car test.
Just checked yes group AM

That sounds good.

Had a couple of these scooters and they are just fab. 2 up no probs..even did applecross belach na ba 2 up on ours. Superb machines.💪👍

Not if you passed your test 30 odd years ago.

I could ride a moped two up if so inclined without L plates.

We hired a 50cc 2 stroke scooter in Capri a couple of years ago. OK, you're not going anywhere quickly, but it did cope with the hills there, and it allowed us to have a different itinerary to everyone else on water taxi trip.
Mike.
