I want to buy a mifi unit for my new motorhome I think there’s Maxview and net gear is there anything else if anyone got one how do they perform

This is working very well for me as a static installation pending fitting in the MoHo (with Poynting MIMO-3-17 roof antenna) when it arrives.

Check out Teltonika like Orion said, we’ve fitted a RUT950 and it works brilliantly with the Panorama Great White aerial.
”want to buy” ? DIY or someone fitting.

Blimey, I had to have a double take on the thread title, I thought it read Which Is The Best MILF and Googled it🥺😵‍💫 I’m scared for life now 🥺🙄🤣

Wonder how many likes that would have got 👍🏻😀

Just sorted out an Teltonika Rutx12 for an RV install, great bit of kit. A few thing not quite working yet and waiting for Teltonika to release new firmware to sort out a few bugs. But I have to highly praise Teltonika for their product support.

Netgear M2 for me, though i do also use a motorhome wifi set up sometimes. the only downside i have with the m2 is when i try to tether it to an existing network (and not using the sim card) - thats when the motorhome wifi system comes into its own!

for roaming use via the sim ive never had an issue around different parts of France or the UK with the M2

Using the term Mifi is becoming the same as saying Hoover when referring to vacuum cleaners.
Mifi is a brand name for wireless routers that, I think belongs to Novotel or some other company.

The Huawei E5577 is cheap, reliable but 4g only. So if you can get and want 5g it's no good.

We are looking to change unit from the Huawei as had for ages even bought a new battery for it. We did buy an Huawei E5786s, few years ago as a spare but although newer, the older E5577 always got a stronger mobile signal.

Do like the flexibility of a battery powered unit which rules Teltonika out. Netgear looks good but expensive and since experiencing the Netgear Aircards am suspicious of Netgear quality and performance.

Having typed this out ... have decided to stick with the E5577 for the time being, have a decent antenna which we use rarely but does help.

I'm also considering adding MIFI but I'm not great with this stuff!

Current situation is that we have two phones one with unlimited data so we normally use the hot spot to firestick to watch Netflix etc when we can get a decent signal.
If we install MIFI do I need to subscribe to get yet another SIM for the unit?
Also can you get a decent unit without a roof antenna?

Thanks

We have 160GB of data on each of our two phones (EE) so we added a 4GB data only sim (EE) at £6.40 a month for the router (Teltonika). We just move data to the router sim as required.
Personally think if your not going to add a decent roof antenna with a router, stick to using your hot spot because you won’t see a great deal of improvement.
We’ve seen a brilliant improvement by having a decent aerial (Panorama Great White) and router from when we hot spotted.

My Teltonika RUTX11 came with attachable aerials just like many home wifi boxes, and it all worked fine. The point of the roof antenna is that the signal strength inside a vehicle, especially a panel van, is very much reduced. Near a window, or a fibreglass section of the body/roof would be OK for signal strength.

However a roof antenna will very likely improve the signal strength. Like Orion, I also have the Poynting MIMO-3 antenna, but the '15' version, which has 2 wifi, 2 mobile and 1 GPS antenna in one unit. The '17' is the same, but with not 2 but 4 mobile antennae. MIMO = Multiple In Multiple Out.

Hi Hettie's Crew, can I ask where you bought the great white antenna from? Also, did you fit it yourself?
Cheers,
Kev

I bought it from CO-STAR who are based in Harrogate. I rang them to ensure I was getting the right one, 2x2 mobile 2x2 WiFi and the right deal. It comes with about 30cm of cables from it so extensions are usually required. They supply it with 5 meters of aerial extension cables which was way too much for us to hide, so I had them shortened to 1.5 meters.
I fitted it myself, first making sure the the position on the roof matched the cupboard area inside, then drilled from the inside out first with a long 3mm drill, then back from the outside using a 25mm hole bit, all very slowly and carefully after checking and re checking position.
You’ll need the thick roof extension piece, which is extra, already attached in my photos.
I sealed around the threaded fixing and the hole with silicone and used the sticky pad supplied to fix it to the roof, which I ensured was flat and cleaned. It has a rubber seal also.
Unlike me, it would be best to get the price based on having the 5 meter cables shortened to the length required and including the thick roof extension.
In deciding where to fit it, ideally it’s best away from anything else on the roof, if possible and convenient to 12v power source for the router inside.

Also check out the Poynting range of MIMO antennas and you’ll find one to match the router connectors you have available. Ferinstance the MIMO-3-17 would be good for the Teltonika RUTX12 with 4x Cellular, 2x Wi-Fi and a GPS/Glonass antenna (for vehicle tracking). Also comes with a 2m cable and connectors as standard. They’re available from a number of U.K. outlets.

Nothing wrong with Motorhomewifi's range of solutions from basic 4G WiFi to 5G with a complicated router with lots of ports.

For a business on the move, I can see the advantage of a more complex router. For everyday use where a hotspot to your existing generous data allowance on your phone won't work for you, then a basic 4G solution is just fine for streaming TV and browsing.

5G is coming, but it'll be a while before you can reap the full benefits of 5G as a "mobile" WiFi solution I believe.

I'm a bit of a gadget/future-proofing sort, but given the next couple years of Motorhoming/Working/Technology advances/Value for Money; I've gone for the very decent and reasonable MotorhomeWiFi 4G system HERE. It was easy to self-install and has not let me down, ever. I got a SMART SIM, others are available. The MotorhomeWiFi configurator is a useful tool...

That what I do. One phone with unlimited data, SIM each for the Mrs, teenager and the mifi and transfer data around as needed

I have a poynting xpol it is omni directional. Have not fixed permanently just stick it on the roof when needed. Tried a couple of cheap square ones, one made no difference the other made a minor improvement.

Bear in mind we rarely need an external antenna, athough recently at Ferry Meadows it made a big difference so much so that I have decided to keep the antenna in the van after all😁

I asked EE about a data sim and using overseas - it still attracts the £2 a day when you use it overseas.

Ive been looking at these. How are you powering it?
I tapped into some 12v wires powering the TV aerial booster and fitted a small rocker switch.
Post #24 in the following thread.
It’ll handle 9-30 volts as a power source, no need for a regulator.

I have a different router, a Huawei B535 and i power this with one of these, the price seems to have gone up a lot since I bought mine last year.
