What's This For, Please?

You could hang a magazine or book on it if elastic was put between the pages.
Of course, why didn't we realise! :giggle: It's to put copies of MMM and Practical MH etc mags on when they're doing a poncy photo shoot! šŸ˜„

IKEA have coat hooks that might hand over the top and make it more practical.

That would probably impede access to the bed. If the coats were wet other problems?

Do you have a matching panel in the door way, as shown in left photo?

Actually had one of those in a Rapido. It was a dangling cloth bag that took up most of the kitchen storage! Needless to say space was swiftly repurposed.

We have a switch in our MH and asked Autotrail what it was for, they advised overhead concealed lighting. They have no idea either as it there is another switch that does that. We keep switching it on and off but still can't find what it operates! Been driving us nuts since we got the MH🤪

Oi - how come this thread has started diverging already. The reputation of Motorhome Fun as the fount of all knowledge is at stake and still there isn't an answer. I wish I hadn't seen this now - I won't sleep until the definitive answer is posted for all to see.

This has me baffled. Does anyone have any idea what this might be for, please? It's quite large, has a padded, velour back and then stretchy things on it. It's obviously for holding something...but what? Anything I might put in there (although I can't think what that might be!) would slip out after not too long, definitely if we were bouncing up and down on the road. So, what's it for? What would you use it for? Thanks :)

It's not identical but similar, with two hooks (one broken, not by us :( ) Not very practical for wet coats! There is no evidence that the panel in question ever had hooks on it.

I wonder if broken off and because the material is soft the evidence sort of disappeared into the nap of fabric. Looks like one of those two hooks is broken.

Yes, I did say one was broken :)

Maybe it's just to stop the door from banging, like a shower house door ... šŸ˜‰

maybe it’s to hold a collection of whips and toys! If you take my meaning:eek:(y)

Maybe previous owner added the elastic to hold postcards, attraction leaflets, photos of family etc. However would be better in a criss cross pattern.
I think we have all run out of ideas.

The elastic goes all the way around the back, so must have been added before the whole thing was mounted. It's factory fitted, as in the picture someone else posted further up in this thread.

I think it’s just decorative and the converter just added the straps to break up the space. Converters rarely have experience of motorhoming so they probably thought ā€œit might come in usefulā€ to an owner.

It's not a conversion, it's a coachbuilt. And, the 'thing' we're talking about is factory fitted, elastic straps and all :)

By conversion I meant the company which converted the base vehicle to a motor home e.g. Hymer. Knaus etc.

I’ve got something similar in the Hymer, different shape but same location. It has two hooks on it which we use for dressing gowns.
