Stuck at home I decided to help my best beloved sort out the larder into potential meals.

Best so far, a packet of rice best before June 2006 ! and right at the back a packet of mixed herbs priced at 1/6d (about 6p in new money)

risotto anyone?

Cleared ours out yesterday as well and found several things best before 2002 or even earlier (couldn’t read the dates they had worn off)!

Found a couple of tins of something that would have been disgusting when first made back in 2000 that I think must have been bought by a lodger (tinned goulash anyone). Definitely off as the tin had started to leak.

Plenty of old stuff, mostly odd things that don't get used often (obviously). Black molasses Sept 99, food colourings and essences from as early as 1994. I posted on a similar thread about a year ago that we had just used the last of a tin of black treacle from 1987. If the coca cola virus doesn't get us . . .

I once found a packet of "home cook" prawn crackers labelled:

"use before 12:45pm 16th June 2435"

Gordon

not sure but it seems to be eating everything

I once accidentally dropped a jar of branston pickle down behind the cupboard in an old Hymer, which was totally non retrievable without a major dismantling job.
I sold it about 20 years ago, told the buyer who just laughed, wonder if it's still there?
