As winter approaches I though I may invest in some insulation by the rear doors, the Hymer site shows this item to be 217.00 Euro’s which is £197.53p (yesterdays conversion rate) the dealer quoted £345.29. The question is do they think customers are stupid, after picking myself off the floor, I wonder is there a single importer for Hymer equipment in the UK so the supplier will be taking a margin then the dealer I asked would also be adding a bit on but what ever the heck is going on I wonder if the Parent company (Thor) know of the practises going on.

There really is something not quite right in the MoHo industry

Recommended retail price including the applicable VAT. Prices may vary from country to country.
From the OP's link
Is German VAT lower than ours?
Does that price include delivery?

Price has gone up since you posted

Prices may very from country to country but not that much, but a phillips shaver
Apparently the standard rate is 19% but 16% since July until December 2020 however that price was there way back.

Updated the other post to show the change (they must be listening:)

Take Philips a premium shaver S9000 in Germany 349.99 euro's (£300) Phillips UK £330 so here we have a supplier with a price variance for the market they are selling Not Dick Turpin and his mates wanting to make a fast buck!!

VAT in Germany is 16% (instead of normal 19%) until the end of the year but agree that some UK dealers don't seem to trade fairly :(

I've always owned old Hymers , brilliant vans , but the price of spares is ridiculous.
I needed a small plastic cover for the motor that raises the top air vent on the roof of the van , about 6 x 2 x 3 inches, cost £84, no other option than to pay it.

Perhaps the 'cost of doing business' is higher in the UK - or the customer base smaller?
I think many many products are priced higher in the UK than elsewhere, not just motorhome spares & accessories.
The option then is to buy from overseas - if that works out cheaper.
But don't forget to weigh up the risks, if you need to return or repair in under warranty.

Now you know what this looks like, why don’t to make the item yourself ?

Are you sure the Hymer price is not for fitting during the initial build, whereas the UK price might reflect the extra cost of retro fitting?
No idea if this is the case but just a thought.

It’s why Hymers are so cheap. They make their money out of the bits that break.

Why don't you just take the rear door cards off and fit some thin silver bubble insulation or the sticky black insulation foam inside there or stick it on the rear of the door cards?

I had an outboard lift motor seize a few years ago. The dealer quoted £750 for a replacement. I did a search on the part number and bought a replacement genuine OEM motor from an official dealer in Florida for....US$199, which the dealer fitted for me. Even with international expedited shipping and import duty, I saved hundreds.

The dealer then showed me his price list from the manufacturer, who was charging him just under £500 for the same part. Daylight robbery and the result of competition-quashing price-fixing by international manufacturers.
