What is the answer ?

Makes me laugh that people still phone the police. Plod UK are the most useless bunch of yellow spined, Liberal, useless bunch of panzies ever to wear uniforms. They only go in mob handed to ladies walking together on deserted moors or Little old ladies sitting on park benches. They never EVER do anything about the Itinerants.
They always have their hands tied. only tied by cowardice but still tied.

I agree totally with the quoted section above. We have a legal permanent 'Travellers site' near us with proper traditionally built houses. Still, their kids run wild, riding motorbikes around the cycle paths, fields and pavement. I have seen them on several occasions and reported to police. They tell me it is difficult to catch them!

Well, yes it is if you don't get in your car/motorbike and come have a look!

It is much easier to send fine to a taxed and insured car driver for accidentally passing a speed camera at 55 mph on a cone striven motorway

I know the Police are scared witless of the travellers. Its easy to scoff but sometimes you can't blame them if they dont have the resources for a fight

A neighbour of mine (when we lived in Leeds ) once had his transit tipper nicked. he was a landscape gardener. The police were not really interested. Someone said it would be at the nearby 'site'. He went down and he could see it through the fence. They were using it. He called the police. They said it would cause too much trouble to try and get it and, off the record, recommended he pretended he hadn't seen it. they said if they were given the resources to deal with it they would. Seemed very strange to me

People always say that, but there are a disproportionate amount of itinerants in jail, so the police must be nicking them.

I know a few site owners who this has happened to. Site owners who pay rates and taxes but have the authorities working against them and if you try and throw them off they are on the side of the scumbags. That the law is not on the site owners' side is disgusting. Hopefully, the new Bill going through will make this kind of thing a criminal offence rather than civil and offer some help.

Another Police bashing thread………if you’ve tried the job, fair to comment. If you haven’t done the job then I’m sure I’ve heard most of your stories / complaints before.

I always, like most Officers (not all I know) tried hard to please everyone……but no matter how hard I tried some refused to be pleased, didn’t want to be pleased and even with a good outcome were dissatisfied.

I‘m not going to try and list the reasons why, as I came to find out whilst serving……it would be a pointless exercise. 🤷‍♂️

One of the hardest jobs going when trying to please people. 🤷‍♂️

Jim, you’ll be pleased to know that at times areas not far from you are covered by someone very close to my heart……usually with very little backup nearby.

I can assure you he does his best. (y)

You need to enlist as a Special Constable or PCSO then you can do something about it 👍🏻
until you’ve done the job you will have no idea what restraints the Police have working against them.
It is not the Police who are scared it’s the legal system and the legislators who are frightened of being classed as racist.

Hi.
Yes..10/12 yrs ago i was on a parish council. The local " Trail " ( Old quarry/pit service line ) was a magnate for young m/cyclists. At one meeting an officer attended and when asked why they did not take the vehicle and crush it said. " They can buy another for £16 and be back again. WHAT...A Tyre on one must have cost more than that. Next. " Rules of engagement" Two PCO officers patroled the trail later on ,odd weekends, still no results..." Why ? "...... If watching out on the Trail, they had to wear their YELLOW vests, plus, could only persue the " Perps" on their push bikes..........YES... you guessed it...Wearing said yellow vests..... NOT THEIR RULES... these came down from on high.
Police. Young officer started, lets call him...." Gary ?" and got involved with the parish, stopped drugs within three months,no yellow vest worn then . He " Disappeared "..... Promoted !! Good for him.

There are good and bad Traveller groups as there are in the Caravan and MoHo community - take Wookey hole last year par example. Another example last week - crapping en-route to the Snowdon Summit....

Please don't blame the police. There simply is no simple solution folks.

Well ROI, France and Poland, amongst others, seem not to have the problem, so there must be some solution.

Some months ago the Fareham police using existing laws moved some unwanted travellers on their way within 48hrs.
Shows it can.be done if there is a willingness?

Money.

The Travellers know that most Police Forces operate, on Bank Holidays, with the minimum manning levels permitted due to cost implications of double time working. Therefore, most areas have less cover on Bank Holidays than normal days.

Did Farnham Police have advanced intelligence in order to have the numbers available to deal for the traveller numbers should it get ugly? Was it private land? So many variables that one size doesn’t fit all. 🤷‍♂️

I don't think anyone is blaming the policemen and women personally. More the system.

Of course, as with life generally, you get good individuals and not so good individuals. I have experienced both.

My experience of the police system with respect to travellers is not good. It could well be that the guidance from the top is implemented because of the difficulties. I do observe that the police (system) tends to sometimes propagate a culture of going for the easy targets sometimes. I have seen obvious and open drug dealing ignored and then on the same day motorists booked for doing 32mph in a 30 zone

In Hunstanton Norfolk last year 8 traveller trucks towing caravans pulled onto the cliff top grass area. I asked a local how long they had been there and apparently they had told the police they had a sick child so they would stay there till they were better. Of course every traveller said they were related so wouldn't move.
The police have got a thankless ,impossible sometimes, job. And the travellers know that and work the system!

Yes, sounds like stories that I had repeated to me time and time again. Usually after I‘d been verbally or physically assaulted. It’s not guidance it‘s the law, which can only be enforced if someone is breaking it. Civil matter is a civil matter…..I never came across this ‘culture of easy targets’. 🤔

Think I’ll leave it at that before I get drawn into my list, which I said I wouldn’t. 🤷‍♂️

If you read my earlier post about the stolen transit tipper you will see what I mean. That was not a civil matter. It was a criminal act.

I have another example. I was dropping my daughter off at university halls in Bradford. As I was parked there at the kerbside a car stopped opposite on the other side of the road. Very suspicious, blackout windows. Then a black range rover came and parked in the middle of the road, effectively blocking it. The people got out of each vehicle and started exchanging high fives etc. Then they got down to some serious talk. A queue of cars started to form. One of the cars was a panda. A wpc and a pc. They looked on as the gangsters started exchanging briefcases which even I could see contained cash as they took some out and checked it.. Other suspicious packages were then duly exchanged. Then there was more high fives, they got back in their cars are drove off. I was astonished. I didn't blame the pc and wpc as these were scary looking people. I would have sat tight as well. Maybe they summoned support but what was amazing was how unconcerned the gangsters were that the panda was there.

Yes but the ROI ,France and Poland are not in charge of them. We have had consistent Governments who have turned the Police from a 'Force' to a 'Service' almost a 24hr back up Social Services and clearing up where other responsible departments have failed.
Police like the Armed Services are targets for the vocal minority pressure groups and get little Government backup. One only has to look at the Fuel Protesters and Statue removers and other dreamy anarchic groups to see where we are headed.

Does this definition fit anyone you know or know of,if so any new legislation is as many are doomed from day one.

New' or 'New Age' Travellers may be recognised by the assortment of vehicles in which they live. They may travel in search of seasonal employment or summer festivals but will usually want to stay on a site for a long period of time while their children attend local schools or while they repair their vehicles. They often have limited resources so moving from site to site can be a problem for them. There are now children of these families born on the road with no experience of house-dwelling.

All travellers, including New Travellers, have their right to roam protected by Human Rights Legislation, by the Housing Act 2004, the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and the Children's Act 2004.

What makes you think I haven't been job.
Typical answer "You should do it" I did. Different type of police then as we had backbones. Something removed in PTC during the first week now.
So long as you can dress up in a tutu and prance about on a pride march your in with today's police. Taking collars not so much as the paperwork overwhelmes the Criminal Protection Service.
I know it's not just the coward police but the whole rule of law that is not worthy of a 3rd world cesspit but that doesn't let plod off just because they are AS useless as the rest of the CJS.

Define travellers when they own big 5 bedroom houses for the winter months. They are not travellers, they are Itinerant theiving scum.

You get the police you pay for. Personally I wouldn't risk catching cold for their money.
I wouldn't sweep the street for the street sweepers pay. But the street sweeper is prepared to accept the pay he gets fit the job he does. If he doesn't think the pay is enough he can find another profession. Not whine about how he doesn't get paid enough to sweep streets. Same with plod. Don't like the pay, go do something else. Maybe if enough did the pay would go up enough.

The Criminal justice system is not fit for purpose from the top to the bottom. Far far too much Politics involved and not enough finance!
Being a Police Officer is a god forsaken job, they cant win, what ever they do! But people are right, the Police are scared of the Itinerants because they always make a fuss, create havoc, say they are an ethnic minority and being picked on, so the Police withdraw, until they have enough resources or decide to let it go, which seems to be the default position.
This is what the Police are up against, they dont give a damn!

These Act's have been hijacked from their original purpose as an authority to do as you like. The Climate change agenda likewise has been hijacked by anarchic political activists. The disruptive minority are being allowed to disrupt the the vast law abiding working majority.
