Your feedback helps! For a 1 or 2 night stopover

Discussing this with a local community. Millport, Isle Of Cumbrae). If you could have an "Aire" like France /Spain etc in the UK,(Scotland) what would be top of the list for you.
A= Fill, fresh water dump black , park for the night , 300 metres from beach.

Would you

"A" be happy to pay say £7 per night.

"B" want to pay more and want electric,

"C" As per "A " but think a different fee...Please comment and say how much. I am hoping to link this thread to the party involved.
No campsite nearby.

Offer A would be great for us and we would use regularly. Beautiful location, friendly islanders, easily reached from mainland with 10 mins ferry crossing.
Hope your discussions Sandra results in an "aire" coming into fruition

A, Location is great, would be happy to pay but water fill and waste would need improvement. EHU not vital as always sunny ?

I voted A but a bit of background re the continent, we have just had 3 nights in a lovely official spot by the side of a canal, no facilities and no charge, two night by another canal €4 per night and €2 to use the toilet bump and get fresh water, the the next two nights are €9.50 per night with waste dump but water is paid for.

Defo "A". No need for "B" at an Aire for me - to have electric is nice, but not necessary

I would predict that laying on electrics might put them off providing the service, in reality we shouldn't need EHU, something is wrong if we do

But Isle of Harris trust offer a £5 per night stay, with no facilities, so up to £10 with dump and fill would be about right

so I guess that is a C

As many have said, its only water and dump facilities that are needed, if staying longer than 2/3 nights.
A reasonable fee is OK also, but then I would be expecting rubbish bins as a sensible addition.

Good luck irnbru with your powers of persuasion with anyone prepared to listen, tell em that Funsters should get priority over CMC/CCC members, as we dont need shower blocks, we are self contained.(y);)

Never having used one as we lurk around the UK I can only say what I think would be nice.
That, for me, would be to have the facilities so that you can top up, empty out and use an EHU as an option if you want it.
It's a case of having an option to be able to access one, now that has to be a good thing, even those with nothing but say drinking water.

I much prefer paying to not paying as I know we’re welcome. £5 if no facilities, £7:50 if water and grey/black disposal. We’re quite local but I’d go. The only thing that might make me think twice is that the ferry is quite expensive and, if there’s only one a few spaces, would you get in? No where to move on to if full.

i think £7 is ok but £5 would be better with just dump water bins

Some of the best Aire's we've used have basic facilities but great location, we'd pay up to £10pn for basic place in the right location with no EHU. I wouldn't stay in a free Aire in the wrong location.

C and up to £10 per night. B is too expensive for a start up. IMHO It will be abused if it has electric denying others the chance to use it.

We pay €8 a night in Spain for an Aire next to the beach, with EHU, water, emptying, a toilet block, showers and a washing machine.

We also go to a free aire in Spain, next to the beach with water and emptying facilities.

Thanks all. I suggested around £7 to "park" to them as that’s likely the most I would pay to park. Also said we didn't need elec and it would be abused.

At the moment when Fun go each June we pay £10 per night but we get to "camp"

It's something they have been relatively keen on but need funding plus want to create funding from it.

I will start a new thread with new Qs so previous posters will also notice it.

as always sunny
Yes thats why I always choose June for a Fun meet. :)

We have been here since Thurs evening for the Country Western Festival and its been raining virtually non stop. It doesn't dampen the spirits though.

Aires in the UK will probably bring up £ signs to most councils. As usual they love our money but dislike our vehicle's.
An aire as in France with water and waste disposal for about £6 would be ok.
I think it's a pipe dream as the C&MC would object strongly to most Aires.

Seems par for the course for Continental Europe.

Most Bornes in France (except the Flot Bleu with doors) the cassette dump lid is open, so if one is going to an Aire without facilities one can stop at another Aire en route. We use grey water to rinse the cassette. Grey water drains are also open 24/7

To answer the OP.

We are self-sufficient for up to a week(two cassettes) therefore we only want facilities occassionally. So we are prepared to pay a little for parking in a nice spot. If the drains are open as above, we only really need water once a week and are prepared to pay for that per 50-100 lts.
We do not use EHU and no longer carry a cable.

Yes there is a cost of installing drains and Business rates(Do Councils pay them for their own facilitie?) to pay but that should be factored into the parking charge. It is really a one of cost to install and then an annual charge of ?

Geoff

I voted A but think £5 would be a better rate not including water and maybe a meter for that like on aires (maybe a flot bleu listed on their website might encourage foreign tourers). I think the drain ought to be free to reduce the chance of skinflints messing the place up.
