Just had a lovely 'Menu del dia' in a small Spanish town perhaps 150km SW of Madrid, just sleeping it off in the afternoon sun, when a lovely Spanish gentleman spoke to my husband to wake me up because he was concerned the sun was far too strong for me to sit in unprotected. It is only the 12th March!!!

It does feel like high summer, 27C even though we are at 2000' above sea level. What must it be like in July and August...

Inland in Spain can be very hot in the summer months.

Just outside Caseras - 38c at midnight - last week of August.

It's not just the heat that can have an effect on you, one of my sisters lives at around 1300 mtrs in the French alps, on a sunny day even in the winter it's possible to get quite badly sunburned if you are uncovered.

Not surprised the least bit! Southerners (I include myself) whether they are in France Spain or Portugal (even worse in Marocco, Tunisia, and Algeria where I come from) know what the Sun can do on you! We, here, are very very aware of skin cancer due to the sun rays , the bad ones. Make a search on internet and see at what time during the day you don't risk too much

Though now we are being plagued by flies as it starts to cool down a fraction.... Left the van door open a little longer than we should have now we have a more than a few unwelcome visitors...

Altitude reduces temperature but increases UV radiation - index will be nearly 10% higher at 2000’ around noon.

At least the later threads have recognised that it is UV penetration , not heat, which causes sunburn.

Otherwise one could get burned in a sauna.
