What exactly does the Ducatco up button do (1 Viewer)

I know that the up button gives assistance when travelling up hills.. but what exactly does it do to the engine

Not the engine it's the gearbox setting, holds lower gears longer, helpful when climbing hills so when climbing hills stays in the lower gears longer, same when descending. A lot of people with heavy vans use it all the time.

I have it on all the time. IMO, the van is more responsive when pulling away from junctions etc.

I prefer to keep it off and control the changes with my right foot, it holds the gears to long and changes down to soon for me.

If I need to get away quick I just put my foot down.

I only use it when, you might find this strange, going up a gradient. Either a steep pass or a long slow incline. Works brilliantly without having to think about it.

It’s probably me just getting used to it....
Being used to our old A class, 2.3l, 130 bhp manual. I just thought the 3.0l, 180 bhp semi auto might have had a bit more go in the gear change area...

I find our 2017 van is a lot better than the 2014 one we had, both 150hp.

Because it holds the gears longer, I often use it when pulling onto busy roundabouts or (less often) out of junctions

Ours otherwise seems to change from 1 to 2 a bit quickly, with a bit of a pause as it changes.

But by using the Up button, it changes up a bit later and seems to avoid the dead spot I otherwise get on the 1-2 change.

As soon as we are in 2nd, I turn it off again.

Just changed from an auto on a 3.5 chassis upgraded to 3850, to a factory 4.4 t and the auto seems to “know” that it’s a heavier chassis and is changing almost perfectly every time, the 3.5 was all over the place and the up button helped but as above changed up and down too soon. Don’t think I’ll need the up button on this one but not been to the alps yet!

As Lenny said ours is on all the time 5,000 kgs plus a toad at times.

In addition to the reasons above, it helps to reduce gearbox changes to a higher gear then straight back down again on a road that has lots of up /down sections like you'd find on a slower country road.
