While in Devon last month and subject to torrential rain, I noticed a slight dampness, under one of my body side windows. As I was away from home, I made a temp. fix by putting a strip of Gorilla Silver gaffer tape along the top edge of the window, it worked!
Yesterday, I removed the tape and sealed the window BUT it left the adhesive from the inside of the tape on the paintwork and rubber surround.
What can I use without affecting my 2007 Fiats frail paintwork? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Artificial nail remover from the cosmetic shelf in the likes of Superdrug etc. It's pure acetone so needs care and wash off with soapy water after.

Thanks everyone, I will try some of the things I already have but am a little apprehensive about Fiat paint as my van is already suffering from the dreaded peal in places. Other stuff I thought about was Surgical Spirits but...🤔 I'll let you know how I get on.

Pretty sure surgical spirit is just another name for rubbing \ isopropyl alcohol.(see #3 above)(y)

As promised I have trialled a number of products, Surgical Spirits, Petrol, WD40, a number of Universal Mastic cleaners etc. and have come to the conclusion that Gorilla Gaffer Tape is the Kiddy (as long as you do not want to remove it!) because it has a film of very thick adhesive ( see pictures) that dampness will not penetrate and will stick like s*** to a blanket.

Most of the things I tried, just spread it further and didn't remove it. The small bits Yes, but not the main body.

The only thing that really worked was my Thumb Nail and Patience ( the latter I do not possess)!

I think, as no-one noticed the Silver Tape at the Swaffham Bash or at home, It might be returning, we will see?

Thanks again for all your suggestion, I will try and get some 'Sticky Stuff Remover as I have not come across it before, and some Upvc cleaner + more Patience (but, I've heard, that's very hard to source! :giggle:

I was going to suggest peanut butter but that looks like a lot of residue. We used gaffer tape on our filler cap in France as it refused to lock and it left sticky lines on the paint. I had peanut butter in the van and it brought it off. Good luck 🍀

Try neat fairy liquid put lashing on leave and the starting at a corner use a scourer (sponge one onside green scourer on the other)

Unfortunately Rob, I'm in France at the moment but I have used a product that works very well without any damage to paint work. I cannot remember name but it is for removing sticky labels. It works on tar as well. Try googling. Sorry not at home to be more helpful.

WD40. Works on everything👍
And leaves an even worse residue. 😡

I use gaffer tape a lot and over many years semi professionally.

Rules
1. Never buy cheap.
2. Duck tape, Gorilla tape etc are not proper gaffer tape. The adhesive is very different.
3. Never let those that think they know how to remove it do so.

Proper gaffer tape does not leave a residue unless it gets hot.

Never use WD40. The invention of the devil although damn good on anything mechanical.

Removing fake gaffer residue is safest with isopropanol alcohol. But NOT on anything remotely like acrylic. It will cause it to craze.

You can often remove fake gaffer residue with prope gaffer. Lay it on and peel it off slowly almost parallel back on itself.

Can you advise what to use to remove Gorilla tape residue from acrylic windows? I have to do that soon. Thanks

Thanks, I will try the gaffer tape trick tomorrow as I have some wide 'proper' gaffer tape that I can slice down so it just covers the sealant.
I think removing the original tape when it was very warm didn't help and allowed the sealant to split from the backing.
I'll let you know how I get on. :giggle:

A particularly gentle but effective one I find is "Multisolve". It's not cheap but works really well:-

https://www.toolstation.com/search?q=multisolve

Normally I use contact cleaner, but Multisolve does work better and is not as aggressive, just about 5 times the price!

i tried some of that today and all it did was soften and spread it, perhaps I should have persevered but thankyou! :giggle:

I would - if it softens it then it's doing something! Keep turning to a fresh bit of cloth, the residue gunks up the cloth fibres quickly. Gaffer tape adhesive is evil stuff to get off.

I've got the dreaded non-stick Fiat paint to sort out - a patch has peeled off my bonnet. I would just get the whole thing professionally sprayed, but I think it would show up the wings! I'll see what I can do with some wet & dry and a rattle can, I patched in one bit before successfully.

My problem is, as you can see from the pictures, it's just above the window I have just sealed and if anything goes on the new sealant, it will probably leak again! This means I have to be VERY careful about soaking etc.
