What can cause a sudden decrease in mpg normally attained, please?

(I don't mean such as being heavy on the pedal or pushing revs etc .. I mean is there anything like diesel, oil, gear box, etc..)

Thank you.

Thanks both. I've just filled right up again and will check once more .. I WAS a bit heavy footed on last long journey but didn't expect it to affect consumption as much as it did.

Can't see a leak and tyres seem ok ..

If it happens again I will ask garage to check fuel pump and injectors.

I like to sound as though I know what I'm talking about when I go into a garage. ;)

What was the difference mpg?

Do you use an app to track the mpg or are you guessing?

That just my little shed of a commute car I use while still in my work clothes a old 1994 Peugeot 106. One day I'm sure it will fall apart but it's been 15 years and I'm still waiting :D

Hills as already mentioned and Head winds will cause drops in MPG. If you are driving for an extended period into the wind then it will make a difference to your normal economy.

Letting the gap between me and the HGV in front grow to more than 6ft. Once a cyclist, always a cyclist -- tuck in behind the big guy when the wind gets up :-)

What was the difference mpg?

Vast. About a difference of 9 mpg. Have to be fair I am normally easy on the revs etc and this time desperate to get home I was well over speed limit for considerable distance. So it may be MY fault.

I have noticed our MPG always suffers when the temperature drops..
For instance, in January going to Spain we average 21.2 mpg
Coming home mid March it goes up to 22.5+ MPG

This has happened every year for the past 11 years .. and we are always heavier coming home than going
