What’s the best thing about your van?

Large amount of extra KITCHEN WORKTOP SPACE in 6 metre Burstner Travel Van 570.

Simple but ingenious design - hinged bed and mattress on gas struts gives a FREE chunk of space.

And the fact it’s 6 metres - I can park pretty well anywhere, very useful as I travel off grid and have only used a campsite once in two years.

The absolutely best thing is it doesn’t have a garage. This saves a huge amount of time on every trip, as I don’t get drawn in to the inevitable garage discussion, how big is yours, how do you organise it, does it have a bike rack, what shelving do you have, what is the max weight, etc, etc. It saves me at least two days on every trip🤣🤣.

Having a gearbox that works! Pointless having a van that cannot be driven anywhere. The last vehicle, which was new in 2023, had two gearboxes fail within the first year. The current vehicle has covered over 9000 miles and all is still good 😃

Maybe I just got lucky, the only thousands on my MH is miles...75k :giggle: I keep it well serviced every year...just in case.
 
Twin rear wheel drive with a diff lock, it seems to eat muddy fields when others around it are floundering, takes all the worry out of camping when the fields wet..

We had been fancying one for quite some time, a new 9 speed Auto became available unexpectedly, , ordered it at the Newbury show and collected it in August. It was a few days before our daughter’s wedding. It’s just as wonderful as we’d hoped, as was the wedding of course!

A Consort Oslo with lithium, extra solar, an inverter, diesel heating, compressor fridge, all set for Iceland in June.

Everything just works :giggle:

Plenty of storage and payload. The layout is great on a rainy day, good size toilet and shower and being 5.99 metres, parking not a huge issue in many places and we pay the same on CalMac ferries as a car. Spent 2 years on FUN learning the ropes before jumping in with both feet (thanks folks) and we got the right van for us at the first attempt. Wouldn't swap it for anything (y)

The port hole windows in the sleeping area. We love looking out when we turn in, and when we wake up. Often views you’d never experience if you weren’t camping, or you’d have to pay a fortune for!
Also less glamorous; the swing out loo, which means we have a decent sized shower room. Clever design.

A swinging loo? I think you have just won this thread and possibly the whole internet! I’ve obviously got to ask how far it swings. Outside the van at least I’d hope.

We have one of these at home obviously but never thought of putting on in the van.

When we were kids, we used to try and see how high we could get on the swings with someone pushing, does the same apply? 🤔
 
When I can drive it and it's not in a Fiat Professional Garage carrying all these blasted Fiat problems over the last 3 years. It's there now😭😭😭😭
 
My favourite thing(s) about my van are having my wife, Lisa, and our dog, Ned, with me all the time. They both make me laugh so many times during the day and I just love their company. Both of them are very kind.

Other than that, it is the EXCITEMENT that Ness, our van, gives me as we drive off. I remember as a young lad of 16 sailing off down the Mersey in the Merchant Navy heading off to who-knew-where and who-knew-what was going to happen over the next few months. It is almost impossible to describe that feeling - a tiny bit of fear, or apprehension, rather - but certainly oodles of excitement.

And now, 52 years later, I still get that same frisson of joy as we start off and hit the open road. We only plan in the broadest sense where we are going - Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, Italy, Spain, Sicily, Malta (that's our furthest, Malta) - and just stop off as we see fit or fancy. So there is still that thrilling element of the ''unknown.'' We love it.

But yeah, Lisa and Ned make it the most special.
