Left home on the 3rd of August, took in the sights of Redhill(!), Chartwell and Canterbury before heading under the channel towards Paris via Vernon and Giverny, then turning left to Alencon and Laval before hitting the Brittany coast and parking up for a few days relaxing on the beaches. Suitably refreshed we then headed back via Mont St. Michel (which was so amazing we stayed an extra couple of days), the Normandy landing beaches, a surprise outdoor music concert in Fort Mahon and Citi Europe before jumping on the 08:20 shuttle this morning and driving back home.

Flashed a few times by speed cameras in France, hopefully they thought we were a lorry but I guess time will tell...

Thank you to everyone for contributing to the shedloads of useful advice and recommendations available on here which gave us the confidence to just go for it and enjoy ourselves. It really was as easy as you all said it would be! (y)

Weather was a combination of wet, dry, hot and hotter!

Seen some beautiful places, brought home some amazing memories. :)

Sounds like you had a great trip! The tunnel is really handy.

Hope you don't receive any unwelcome post from the French authorities, after those pesky cameras winked at you. ;)

We are about 35 minutes north of Southampton so the Southampton/Portsmouth ferries make more sense. But it was cheaper to use the Chunnel even with the additional fuel and toll costs!

We live in Bristol and have used the tunnel this year and last to go to Brittany! (y)

Cost is one factor, but flexibility and convenience are the main reasons. We share a frequent traveller account with a neighbour.
