Am looking for suggestions for quiet places to pitchup very close to or with direct access to calm water in around Central England so that we can have a play with and make fools of ourselves in a new inflatable kayak.

We love Cashel, Loch Lomond and their lochside pitches but just a bit too far at the moment.

Lyndon Top, Rutland Water, but make sure you write and support it against the Council trying to close it.

Newbridge CMC - riverside site near Bath. Not sure if it’s Central England though .....

Waterclose Meadows Campsite
Houghton Mill, Near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, PE28 2AZ

Just down the road to St neots

Thanks for the ideas, if I said Wales would there be other sites, really want a pitch right next to water that you can use a kayak on.

What about Shrewsbury showground Neil or is it a case of been there, done that? :D

Tim might be able to suggest some Welsh sites but don't think he looks in here much thesedays ( too busy with his new lady:LOL:)

Try this one
https://www.balacamping.co.uk/

Its literally right on the lake and people pitch up and sail and canoe directly from it.

But take plenty of provisions because there's nothing there.

There is a CL at Radcot which has easy access to the Thames .

There are lots of pubs and sites in central England right next to the canals we have used our kayak many times on the canals very peaceful

in case Tim doesn't get on here - he said Shell Island(y)

Is the Lakes to far away
For this trip yes bit too far, but later on the way to Scotland would be ok.

The reason we like Cashel, loch Lomond is you can park right on the loch edge and walk out into the Loch it is quite shallow, a bit sheltered and quiet. Just seeking something similar but closer to home.

Quick update, on the off chance we did try a couple of river based sites near Oswestry and Shrewsbury but the waters were high and access awkward.

So we traveled a bit further to Pant-Yr-Onnen, Bala, balacamping.co.uk. For our purposes almost perfect lots of space, shallow easy access right from the pitch, a slightly sheltered bay and not busy :D.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions we have bookmarked a few. (y)

But the prize goes to @jongood , thanks.

Try Croft Farm Waterpark near Tewksbury.

Nice little lake ideal for inflatable kayaks, paddle boarding, windsurfing, pedalo’s etc.
