Our van is fitted with two connected fresh water tanks, one higher than the other. When the upper tank contains water it exerts pressure on the lower tank and its water level sensor. This sensor is now slightly loose in the tank and water has begun to weep around the seal. Any suggestion / advice on how to remove / reseal / tighten the unit to stop the leak would be much appreciated.

Sorry can's assist but I'm sure Clarky had a similar issue early on in his Carthago ownership??
What a good memory Christian. (y)
We did indeed have a problem but ours was with the drain valve not the level sensor.

There is obviously lots of sealant around the sensor housing, as there is on ours, so I would think that removing, cleaning then an extra layer of sealant would do the trick.
Looks like a simple job but I have no idea which sealant to use though or how easy it is to get the old stuff off or how the sensor is fixed.
Best of luck Roger Dorset Diver and do let us know how you get on. I may have the same problem in the future.

Richard.

How about removing the inspection plug and take a look?
My guess is that its the take off that goes to the pump
The second one might be a vent pipe that links to the upper tank.

Not sure about that as there are also two pipes on the waste tank sensor. Hope they don't go to the water pump :Eeek: . However, when it cools I shall disconnect the pipes and cables, and remove the inspection plug; not necessarily in that order :giggle:.

If you’re unsure about removing the large plastic component you might like to try removing just the excess sealer round the edge and apply a thick bead of Stixall sealer / adhesive making sure it is well attached to the tank and the sensor cap

Surprised its just stuck on so resealing should do the trick.
Make sure you get the right sealant as a lot of sealants won't stick to polypropylene.

I can twist the unit a little whereas the unit is the waste tank is firm. I know there is a big nut on the inside* so the first thing I will try is to tighten it. Access won't be easy and I'm not sure if I have anything with which to turn it.

* Yeh, I know - one on the outside also .

As promised an update. I eventually had to admit failure. Gave the problem to Reliance. Sean was able to remove the sender with as special tool that he made; something that I was unable to make or do. He was then able to clean and refit the unit with new sealer etc, and makes sure it was really tight. It now seem to be okay but I do keep checking just in case ;).
