Help please, a client at the camperstop has a pump problem on a Autotrail Cheyenne 690, he has replaced the sureflow pump to try to fix it.
With a tap opened it runs as expected, turning off the tap the pump still runs until the vibration increases and water dumps water from somewhere near the boiler.
To me (The untrained) it sounds like the pump is running empty, perhaps air is getting into the system. Has anyone else experienced the same on their van, or could offer any advice.

If water is being dumped near the boiler check the automatic frost dump valve to see if it is open. Depending on the system it may be that water being dumped pulls more into the boiler without the need for a tap to be open.

I was thinking the same thing, SWMBO managed to inadvertantly open our boiler dump valve recently when rummaging around under the bench seat.

Two great minds think alike, and so did ours! ;)

Autotrails do not have the auto frost dump valve..
but often the manual dump switch is near that area and is easily knocked if people store items around it.. So check for the valve (may be yellow) and ensure its flat, not sticking up,,
Worst case then maybe a leak, loose pipe, faulty boiler. :(

Thanks guys, just to add, the pump will need to be turned off at the main switch on the control panel, to stop it running.

The system isn't pressurising probably due to a leaking joint or the manual dump valve is open. Just check that the filter housing isn't cracked too.

Another thing to consider is the pump diaphragm, it could be split due to previous frost damage.

Maybe it's over pressuring & opening the safety valve on the boiler?
Does it have an adjustable pressure switch?

If the pump is found to be faulty make sure you fit a like for like pump with the same pressure rating. It will be on the box and the side of the pump. There are different ratings and if there are numerous on sale you will be able to see the different pressure ratings. Some time ago I experienced a dodgy pump that failed within 6 months and it was put down to a faulty batch from the manufacturer. AutoTrail replaced it FOC.

Our pump didn't stop recently and I found that 2 jubilee clips had worked lose and water was spurting out where it shouldn't - I am hoping that the water damage is minimal.

There is also a relief valve on the hot outlet elbow built in to it normally.

Thanks for all your replies. Passed the info on. Had a good look round and have found a slight leak near the boiler. Hope this is the problem and they can get it sorted easily.

Thanks all once again.

sounds like the pump is producing more pressure than the safety valve is set at are you sure he hasnt got the wrong pump

Had a problem with my autotrail dump valve.
wife had put items on top of the lever if you press it just slightly it will dump water and the pump will run.
