I think I need a new 5 + 1 branch water manifold. I bought one from Brownhills last year, which has flat tops to the branches rather than serrations like the original and it keeps leaking around the jubilee clips I put on. I tighten them up but after a while they come loose and leak again. I don't think it helps as the manifold is in the cupboard with the heater which gets really hot. The pipes are white with a blue line running along the length. They measure 10mm internally but fit on the original manifold which looks like 10 to 12mm depending on the serrations. Am I using the wrong jubilee clips. The original ones were the type that were nipped on with pliers but they came loose. I have used the screw type but although tight for a while the pipes come loose and I don't think it is the clips that undo. Any help please as it is so awkward to get at?.

You could possibly try wire hose clips.
Rather than a flat solid metal structure it's all made from bent wire so you have two clamping surfaces instead of one wide solid one.

Yes. Thanks for that. I used to use those years ago. Just looked online and they are still around.Definitely worth a try. Thanks.

Do you need the inserts that go in the pipe before you connect it as speedfit connectiond

Don't think so. It is a flexible rubber type pipe that pushes over the connectors.

I had a similar type of leak and I managed to stop it when I tightened up the jubilee clips with a small socket and ratchet. I found that I wasn’t able to get them tight enough with just a screwdriver

Cheers

Sounds like your new manifold was intended for use with Speedfit/John Guest connectors, as mentioned by Simon Meadwell above.

You could purchase a 12mm to 12mm straight connector linked to a 12mm spigot with barbed 10mm at the other end to join with your flexible pipe. Unfortunately, that would cost about £10 per connection, total £60. Might be cheaper to purchase a new manifold with barbed 10mm tails (if available) !!!

looks to me as if there are threads above the pipe did it come with any nuts?

it's the wrong fitting for hose clamps. it's push fit

I am with Pappajohn use the wire clips they have a smaller bite. I would put some water pump grease on first let it harden before using.

It did not come with any nuts. This is a picture of the type of manifold.

Have u cut back the pipes so it's new pipe that is attached to the spigot?
(If there is any spare)
You could try using silicone adhesive when u refit them with the wire clips and u need to be crimping over (either side of) the ridge nearest the manifold.

If you can wrap PTFE tape on the manifold spigots before you push the pipes on , that may well resolve your problem

I did cut back the pipes but not much spare now to do it again.

Is that "stock photo" like the old manifold or the new manifold you have now ?

I thought you mentioned the new manifold has plain stubs and not serrations.

Worm-drive clips in small sizes are rarely ideal due to the near-flat area formed by the worm drive itself. Very narrow ones are available but I can't find any advertised anywhere. I use the ones in the link where I don't anticipate the need to remove them regularly. I've never had one leak. They're installed using pincers to squeeze the ears.

Also available in small quantities/single size.

Hi, The stock photo is of the new one now fitted and leaking

I know this might seem like a daft question but the pipe used is 10mm on inside and 15-16mm on outside, just to check I would need 14-17mm clips. And do I nip the clips together on both sides of the clip?

U cut it back once so should be ok with that. 14/17 clips ok.
Dont understand last sentence.

Yes both sides. The clips are sized by the outside diameter of the pipe you expect to slide them onto. My fitting technique is blunt (nail-pulling) pincers to squeeze them up and similar sharp ones to cut them off if needed. I have a pair of pincers with half the width of the jaws very sharp & the other half lightly rounded so they do both jobs.

you could try 2 turns of self amalgamated tape on the spigots first wind it on tight it will act like a gasket

Those are pretty awful hose tails and i can see why they aren't easy to get a good seal on. Often the plasticiser in PVC pipe gets old and brittle and it becomes harder to seal (especially on those hose tails).

Plastic ratchet clamps could work well if they would fit in-between the sealing ribs.

You could replace the PVC pipe if that's not too hard to do ?

Just thought I would give an update which might help others and thank all who replied. Some great help offered and much appreciated. What a helpful friendly club. Having read all the advice I thought I would start by doing the simplest first and if that didn't work move on. Although I had tightened the jubilee clips up as much as I could with a screwdriver in a really awkward spot I tried a socket and wrench. The clips tightened really easily and I could feel where to stop tight on the plastic spiggots . They now are very solid and no leaks. Time will tell but I am confident and have wire clips and other ideas if I have any further trouble. Thanks again for all the expert advice.
