After flaffing for half an hour with a water cap on my MH I came across this . Probably posted before but useful nonetheless--------put the key in and turn it anti-clockwise .This unlocks the cap preventing it spinning freely. Then a tiny turn anti-clockwise and voila. Calmed down now.

With mine after unlocking I have to push in then twist anti clockwise to open.

Does anyone know if they tend to have the same thread? We've only got one key and if we can't get a duplicate cut, will get a new cap.

Has your key got a number on it ?

A lot of caps the have Zadi barrels which a lot of caravan and motorhome accessory retailers hold a stock of keys for.

Think there's a couple of diameters in general use (65 and 77mm from memory) but best get somebody to confirm this.

There's not normally a thread just twist & lock. Universal locking water filler caps can be obtained for around £14 and come with 2 keys. You should be able to get a duplicate key cut though, or from the number of the Zadi key if you have one.

take very good care of the key you have, most vans have only one key for the water inlet One idea might be to put it with the main keys, then if you lose them you have a damn sight more to worry about.
Seriously though, ask a key cutter who does motor keys if he /she can help. I wanted a key for my toad car, which just unlocked the steering lock. the answer was not to install a chip. The locks undo, the lights come on, but the vroom vroom noises are down to you.

I wanted an unchipped key too (from Timpsons) but they refused as they had been sued by a customer who had one made but claimed they had not been warned not to use it in their ignition because the immobiliser would be activated and need a reset by a garage. It cost the customer and then Timpsons several hundreds of pounds. I've no idea if this is correct or not but just in case it is for some vehicles, I thought that I would share the information.

no chip,no action. I did it for safety reasons, The key prevents the steering lock from coming "ON" because the steering locking at 50 mph is definitely not going to extend the life of your front tyres, or keep the original colour of your underwear.

ex service, zany sense of humour, but always going down the "What if "route. That way you nearly always have an answer before you get the problem.

Don't like that, you could put yours keys someone could take a photo and get a key made to get in your van.
One key does everything on our van apart from the ignition.

Unfortunately for you they are very good. Got duplicate keys for my water cap and Thetford locker door very quickly from them. just quote the numbers on the key

... don't leave your keys unattended then Lenny ... or have a very large bunch with lots of other keys so it would take them ages to wade through and take photos!

I hasten to add that it was a photo off the web ... even hubby who has a few keys doesn't have anything like that in his pocket! :D
