Hi. We are a writer and photographer couple specialising in street photography and photography writing. We have been working abroad and with Covid, now find that a motor home is our best option to get around Europe, North Africa and possiblly further. We are looking for a decent Hymer A Class with an aim to buy befire Christmas. You can see what we do at petercorbettphotogtapher.squarespace.com

We are interested in hearing from other Hymer users and their experiences. We've also been looking at Wigaam which is an Italian brand of very stylish van conversions. Anyone who has bought one if these should contact us too. Also, anyone who has another reliable German brand that they feel rivals the Hymer. Thanks and good wishes.

Hi

We have had four German Motorhomes.

3 Mercedes Based and one Fiat.

From Nearly new to Bran new.

Our 20 year old Fiat Hymer we bought 4 years ago has been the best.

Do you mean Wingaam?

Hymer are not a bad make to own we bought a new one in 2017 and spent the next 2years putting things right due to the crap service from the Hymer dealer (Lowdhams) I sorted most things out after the dealers cocked them up,
It might have been a better experience from another dealer.
Nice van but you need to be hands on but that said it could be any brand

Loved the van but could not put up with any more shite from the dealership 🙂

Interesting. So the 20 year old was better than the nearly new models. Less technology to go wrong?

Fixed back bed, separate shower from loo if possible, or a closed shower, pull down bed if possible but not essential. The fixed bed is our main ask.

Also welcome.

I would add Niesmann & Bischoff (N&B) to your list.

N&B were originally a family firm. They make vehicles very similar to Hymer, but in my and others view a superior quality, then were absorbed into Hymer Group but still built in their own factory in Polch. I like you, was concentrating on Hymer as a first-time MHomer, then visited a dealer who had no Hymers I wanted but showed me an equivalent N&B. I did not buy that one, but from then on switched my attention to N&B, because they just say 'quality'. I bought secondhand privately at 6 years old for less than half new price. That was 11 years ago and I am still very happy with it.

You did not say whether you can drive over 3.5t. If not, N&B models probably will not have enough payload as they are a bit heavier built and their chief salesman told us recently they do not sell any under 3.5t, not strictly true but for all intents it is.

N&B models are harder to find in UK but lots available in Germany, Holland, Belgium - see mobile.de website. N&B will cost a bit more, but not much at secondhand prices, from then on depreciation is minimal, because they last well.

Others to consider are Carthago, Burstner, but without going up to much more expensive marques. I have no experience.

Good luck in your search.

Geoff
