Hi,

I have a Waeco camera wired to a Pioneer double din all singing/dancing unit which, until recently, was working fine.

Now I appear to have lost the video signal. There are a couple of positioning lines on the screen but I think these are generated by the Pioneer unit.

The infra-red LED on the camera lights up in the shade so I’m assuming it is getting 12 volts. The Pioneer display works for everything else so I don’t think there’s a faulty display.

Is it likely that the video cable could have become disconnected at either end? How can I check the camera connection?

Otherwise, any other clues please?

Thanks...Keith

Are you sure that the "camera" input is turned on? If the head unit is unplugged or the engine battery is disconnected the Pioneer will default back to no camera installed

If this is the case you will need to turn the reversing camera back on in the settings menu

If your Waeco camera is similar to the one I have just removed from my MH then the end connections are moulded plugs, therefore the chances of a wire coming loose in either of the plugs is slim. Can you see / reach the male and female connectors at each end ? If so, disconnect and reconnect at each end see what happens.

Is your camera a two lens system ?

Thanks guys. Nothing has been unplugged. No batteries removed. Motorhome sits all day with mains power keeping everything charged up. Last week I noticed the problem. I cleaned the lens and it worked for a few minutes. Now nothing. I’ll look at settings anyway.

It is a two lens unit with a switch on the dash to enable the long distance lens.

So I'm assuming that neither the long distance or reversing cameras work ?

Try wigging the wire as it goes into the back of the camera as someone watches the screen, I've heard there can be a problem in that area.

Shame you were not closer I'd have lent you my old Waeco camera so you could test by substitution. Not fixing it to the back of your MH, just connecting it up to the back connector to see if it works.

Sadly, in my case it was the camera that had failed:(. Wack`os are (allegedly) expensive clones of the cheaper ones from E-Bay? with the same internals?.

Problem is intermittent. Camera started working yesterday, but won’t work today. Sounds like a loose connection at one end or the other.

Think all these cameras come from the same place in China. I have taken three to bits now and they all seem to contain the same bits and pieces. Mind you the really expensive one I had was stuck together inside with lots of hot melt glue. Something to do with fitting a round lens to a square hole without the proper piece of plastic that was fitted in the cheap one. You could buy a cheap camera and fit it and see what happens. Order one from a well known online store and if it doesn't work send it back. Make sure you get the right one though. You need one with reverse image unless you can tell the head unit to reverse the image.

Make sure you get correct connectors or cable adaptors mind.
