So then, I have posted elsewhere but since pampam asked what is it….. here it is

Now, the thing is, it’s not really a ‘Motorhome’ in the traditional sense…… but we do motor around in it and it is our home when we do so🙂. Therefore maybe I’ve slinked back in under the radar? 😁😁 Thinking about it, our previous two vans were PVC’s so maybe I was being fraudulent all along! 🤣

I see people talking about downsizing, well I reckon we are the champions of downsizing! …….. 6m PVC down to 5.4m PVC…… then down to 4.9m campervan ……… surely it has to stop somewhere! 🤣

We love our little van (Vixen the Volkswagen) and look forward to taking her on many new adventures 😍

We have PVC and as far as I concerned it's a MOHO. Unless of coarse sites say campers only..then it's a camper. Best of both worlds 😃😃😃
What your V5 say.... Motor caravan????
There's your answer. (Admittadly it may be "van with windaes" but even so... still a MOHO.
Don't listen to the big boys.. they only jealous of our we can fit in yon wee space vans.

Haha, don’t get me started! The V5 says MPV…… And we have to pay the extra car tax on it because it’s not classed as a motorhome 😥

Good on you, loved out T6, and miss it alot but happy with our pvc for the bog at night mainly.
You must notice the ride quality of the cali over the others?

If fitted out as a camper inside why not get it reclassified...Mpv is one class that is eligible.
You will almost definately get "van with windows" but as far as DVLA concerned that carries same perks as "motor caravan" designation.

This is the subject of an on going debate on the VW forum ……. Blood out of an orange springs to mind 😱

My V5 just says Fiat Ducato maxi 40 even tho its a Swift Bessacarr E495 and cheaper to tax than my fiat ducato van.

I love the table and chairs in the tailgate and I wonder why everybody else dont do it now 🤷‍♂️

Have you got a toilet in there?

I call mine a campervan unless I want to be posh then it might just become a motorhome 🤣

Welcome back! Self-propelled tin tents with en-suite bucket still fall into the "motorhome" category.

As an aside, please make liberal use of the ignore buttons. You can quickly turn this site into a pleasant place to visit by using them. But I expect you already know that! :)

Fantastic choice Chockswahay, Had three from new before we needed a change. Now would love another. What can I say that you don't already know. You have a luxury people carrier, you have access under all height barriers, you have luxury high speed transportation for the family. You have stealth for overnighting in carparks or back streets without attracting attention with access to all supermarkets. Get a small toilet tent that takes 2 mins to erect and you have total flexibility. We have been all over europe sleeping in the huge beds onboard or easily parking in hotel car parks for luxury stay overs while touring local areas in luxury too. After a lifetime of camping and motor homing I have experienced in many types of vehicles and I can honestly say that the California is still my favorite by a country mile. And JJ is correct in saying it is exceptionally economical. ;)

My V5 says ours is a Capron. 🤷‍♂️

Have you tried to get it changed? Certainly worth a go especially as you have a pop-top, if you put some camper decals on it you would strengthen your case.

Pop tops no longer allowed for motorhome classification. 😢

It’s a whole new can of worms Minxy …… The VW California is recorded by DVLA as various types depending on the year of registration! Ours was registered in June 2020 when they (THEY!) Decided it was an MPV!

All of this when is is quite clear that it is a ‘motor caravan’ built from the ground up at the factory.

TBH life is too short for me to take on these battles (plenty have tried on the VW forum and as of yet no one has succeeded.

My year 71 T6.1 6 seater was registered as a van and I applied to have my V5 changed to van with windows, I had a reply from DVLA with lots of forms to fill in and if I couldn’t satisfy them with my response they wouldn’t change my V5.
I sent upteen photo’s of the inside of our van and exterior photos. And after 11 weeks DVLA changed my V5 to Van with windows.
Now I’m not restricted to commercial speed limits but car speed limits.

John.
