I watched part of ‘Defenders UK’ at 10am on BBC1 (South) today, which featured a lady called Melanie (I think) who has an older Hymer and whose address fell under the London emissions zone. She apparently went to a company called Vortex Exhaust Technology Ltd, Essex, who promised a new exhaust system at a cost of over £2k would meet the requirements of the emissions zone, making her older Hymer compliant with such. Transpired to be totally false, she was seemingly taken advantage of by an unscrupulous company, as proven by subsequent independent vehicle testing (emissions failure). It seems this particular Vortex Exhaust company were falsifying documents after insisting they perform yearly checks on the system.

(labelled as available for 29 days from 29th March 2022)

Note: there maybe other similarly named companies who are not implicated in this scenario.

Be careful out there…

Vortex Exhausts

Unlike many developing low-carbon technologies, Vortex Exhaust Technology is immediately available and will impact on emissions TODAY.

Increased legislation has forced vehicle manufacturers to reduce vehicle emissions. Consequently, exhaust systems have become more complex in their design and even more restrictive to gas flow, thereby reducing vehicle performance and power.

Vortex products are unique and have created a new generation of exhaust technologies that improve volumetric efficiency, resulting in significant emissions reductions and improvements to fuel consumption and performance.

Know nothing about them apart from stuff I have read, but always thought they were a reputable company.

Was it Jeramy from Parrotsol who had a system made by them on his last van ?

I have a vague recollection that this type of emission reduction system needed to be approved by the LEZ authority
