Downsized to Bongo!

Since 2012
I have the M250 +TV/Homephone package. I don't use the phone or TV and really don't need gaming speeds, but it was all in a special offer that I took some 18 months ago.

My montly bill was going up to over £40 next month, and after two fruitless conversations with Virgin to reduce the price I started a USwitch process, naming BT as the provider. Virgin still wouldn't budge on the prices.

Low and behold, next day I received an email from Virgin: "Ring us for a chat!".

Ten minutes later I'm on a M125 basic package at £20.00 a month for the next 18 months...

Result!

We were on the basic with virgin. I rang to cancel and were now on the 250 for half of what we were paying for the basic. Result!

An old workmate bought a Lexus L200 when he retired 18 years ago and also joined the RAC at the same time, he's just got his renewal through last week which had been £180 last year, but they were putting it up by an extra £90 this year. He phoned them up but they weren't for budging.
He said he's only used them 3 times, once just after he bought it and the steering lock wouldn't disengage and the callout guy just smashed the lock off with a big screwdriver and a lump hammer ! He did write a note for his dealer who replaced it under warranty though ! The other two times were flat batteries.
He still has the car and has run out of pages in the service book Lexus receptionist said they could provided him with a new service book for only £46 !

I’m guessing you’ve halved the speed…

Just shows persistence pays off! Good result price wise; I hope the service meets expectations though! 🤪

We have been with Virgin Media for 18 years. Every time the contract comes up for renewal I challenge the price and always get a far better deal than the proposed price. I do the same with insurances and breakdown cover.

Tis the kind of car I’d love to buy! 🤪

That seems remarkably good value, better than I could get from Virgin.
I think the basic price for your original setup is over to £70.00.
I lowered my broadband speed to 125 and pay £37.00 now
I've never heard of anyone getting TV landline and broadband for £20.00 pm
I'll have to up my haggling game next time it's up for renewal

I have the Virgin M125 + phone line package. I was paying £27 per month until the contract ended in January. My new price was going to be £45 per month. I rang them up and said I was cancelling it. Suddenly my new price is £21.37 per month. This I have accepted.

18 months ago the same thing. I rang to cancel but the offers I got were still too much. So I confirmed my cancellation. 2 days later the 'Retention Team' rang me. These are the people with the power to offer the really good deals. I accepted a £27 deal.

So you must tell them to cancel and mean it. They will fight to keep you.

I had a BT Full-Fibre connection. When I called to say I was thinking of switching, they (to their credit), asked if I had an EE account? I said yes -- I have one cheap data-only EE SIM in my iPad. Since EE & BT merged, they could therefore switch me onto an EE 'bundle' which was basically exactly the same 900 Mbps connection on the same fibres from the same people, but branded as EE instead of BT. The SIM plus the broadband then came out rather less than the BT broadband had been on its own.

In case anyone else is in a similar situation...

I got sick of having to deal with Virgin's increases two years ago, took out a Three 5G subscription for £20 a month and cancelled Virgin. Only then did I get a call offering me a better deal. I advised them what they could do with it.
We have been happy enough with the service from Three to renew it a few weeks ago when the contract came to an end.

We had problems with virgin a few years ago because the prices kept going up and they refused to connect us to the fibre across the road. We tried to cancel the whole contract (TV and broadband) but we couldn't because it was already in place for a few months after renewal.
The trick here was to argue with them to get a better deal. Accept that deal then cancel it within 14 days, as is your right.
Quite happy with BT at the moment, fibre to the premises at 500 mbps. Free TV from satellite. Saves us about £50 per month.

We had issues with Virgin at our last house. The connection kept cutting out and Virgin refused to send anyone out as they said it was fine. When the contract was up they tried all sorts to keep our custom, but we had had enough of their poor sevice.
Went with a 5G router and Sim card from Scancom which gave us 100mbs download and 10mbs upload. We are lucky that in our new place we have a really good 5g Three signal so bought another 500gb per month sim which runs for 20 months . We are now getting 400mbs download and 50mbs upload speeds all for the equivilant price of £5 per month.

Isn’t it he title rather ambiguous, Virgin halved my subscription by halving what you get, it’s a little bit like Wetherspoons halved my bar bill because now I drink halves instead of pints !

Hmm. Semantics rule OK? I halved my subscription, as clearly stated. What I do with it is my business...

I've also been with Virgin since before they were Virgin (dial up days!)

Until very recently there wasn't really a credible alternative for me.

However, City Fibre popped in their own infrastructure and now Vodaphone are offering 1Gb for £20 on a 24 month contract.

So, when Virgin sent me an email to let me know they were popping the price up I told them not to bother as I was going to move.

So they've now upped my speed and dropped their price... It's not quite 1Gb but my 500Mbps is 'just about adequate' :ROFLMAO:

To be honest, I probably will move away next time - I just couldn't be bothered with the down time and a new router and reconfiguring all my home networking etc.

However, one of the new providers on the City Fibre network are now offering fixed public IP at no extra cost which would simplify a lot of things.

I'm another one that remembers the days when loyal customers got hampers at Christmas rather than two fingers...
