Just seen this on a local news site. It's a relatively new RollerTeam with the plate BX18 CWT on a Fiat chassis. No idea how they got in.

they must have used some form of key fob as if you watch closely the indicators flash once before he goes to the drivers side..

looks very much like they had a set of keys. A friend of mine, very much in the know due to his job, was telling me about a case where a second hand van was bought, but the sellers kept some keys and used the tracker on the van to find it. Technology is great, but can be used against you as well as protect. In the case I mentioned, the van was recovered by the police near the campsite where the previous owners live

and just leave your "immobiliser" in it at night

May well of cloned the key then they plug straight into the obd port and off you go. It took them 26 seconds to clone my wife’s Range Rover and drive off in it a couple of years ago, now I always move or block the obd port on any of the vehicles we have, mind you I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do, I’d rather them clone the key from out side the house then brake in for it and possibly get attacke. One of my friends leaves all his keys right by the front door for that reason and the more you think about it it makes sense.

An accountant I know, had her door smashed in with a concrete block while she was in bed they went up stairs, found her in bed and told her to get the key sand hand them over or else.

Tossers

That is similar to the theory "the more secure you make it, the more damage they will do taking it/getting into it.... and rest assured if they want it THEY WILL GET IT!!!

We're getting to the point where it's not worth locking anything up then. Law and order has reached such a low with woke juries and judges that you're best to let them just take it.

Glad ours is out of site (and an Elddis 🤣) also we drive a shit little car nobody wants 😊👍

Jim did a great feature on security, I can’t find the link at the moment.

I am one of the keys by the front door types. I work nights so if they break in, I want them gone and away with minimal fuss while Lucy and the kids are in.

Some would disagree and say if they can’t find them quickly, they will bugger off.

The old ways seem the best, if you can, turn your driver's seat around, put a security (motorbike ?) chain through the underneath. Just takes that bit longer to try cutting it off in order to drive off. Bollards on the drive are a deterrent too. As you say, if they want it, they will take it, but the longer they have to work at it the better the chance they will be caught or give up. They must be gutted.

I’ve heard so many reports of vehicles being broken into and tools removed and vehicles being stolen off driveways it seems to me that rather than spend a fortune on vehicle security wherever possible invest in year-round secure storage. We use a CASSOA site which is 15mls from home but and pay about £450 storage fees but rest easy at night knowing the thieving toads won’t be nicking ours of the drive anytime soon.

Could it possibly have been keyless. And some form of scanner to start the van.
I know some cars can be stolen that way .

We do exactly the same and keeps the toe rags away

This motorhome was bought second hand so it looks like there has been a key copied or a spare was held back after sale. You cannot clone a Fiat ducato with a clone machine the microchip has to be removed from the obd and then cloned. Its a difficult process and takes time and skill. Thieves cant steal a Fiat in that short space of time without actually having a key.

That’s good news well it is for us as we’re in the process of renewing ALL the locks.
mainly because of so many mismatched keys.

there was near on one key per lock.
And three for passenger doors. Ignition and fuel cap.
we should be down to just 3 keys hopefully.

I have mentioned this on here before but a daft tale...

When i had my Satellite TV business, one of the installers had an issue with a van and left it on my driveway.
Removed all tools and ladders into my garage. As a sort of joke he said "I will leave the doors open cos you know what they are like around here". So thats what we did, left it unlocked but empty (starting issue)..

Next morning, Van looked ok until I walked around the front,,,, They had cut out the windscreen to gain access :doh:

If they want it they will most likely get it..

I recently bought a newer van. WildAx. Chatting, told the dealer I was off to buy loads of kit in Halfords to help prevent theft. He said - Don't bother. Just take all the cushions out. They would not want to have to pay out on that AND cushion makers are aware and would ask difficult questions.
Interesting approach.

Minor point, the video has been chopped, the clock on top right jumps 20 / 30 seconds, if their was three of them I would expected them to push it off the drive as it so close to the house to have a better chance of getting away undetected.

I always take the loose furnishings out over the winter lay up period (or other long lay up periods). Along with other 'slow the thief down' measures. If they target it after all of that. They're welcome to it.

Not convinced it is anything to do with 'woke'. Seems to me that it is more to do with lack of funding for the police and the criminal justice system. You have to catch the criminals and get the case to court before any 'woke' influences can impact the outcome.

I think this is overkill.... But.

NYE I was at the York C&MC site for the night.

Walking to the toilet blocks I noticed a caravan  set up (car missing - guess out exploring) The Caravan had a water thingy attached. A Toilet waste wheelie thing plugged in. Leveling legs wound down. Trailer hitch cover on (ill assume a lock too) lots of camping stuff kicking around it. Plugged into EHU etc etc.

To get into the site you need a key fob for the barrier (yea you could tailgate I guess)

But it had 2! wheel clamps on it........ I mean really... Are people driving on to sites and basically packing away a caravan hoping the people dont come back or the people on the pitches next to it don't notice different people in a different vehicle just hooking up and taking off?

I am all for security but thats surly overkill.

As to this Motorhome theft. Gutted for them. But as said if someone really wants in they are getting it.
