Im looking at getting the multiplus 1600 and i was wondering if you can have just the inverter on and disable the charger.
i already have a victron mains charger fitted.
thanks in advance.

You'll want a phoenix not multiplus then. Or sell your charger.

But if you insist, just don't give it a mains feed.

i was looking at the multi plus instead of the phoenix for its automatic transfer switch capabilities.
so if the charger on the multiplus cant be turned off then yes, selling the mains charger is the best option.

renogy and others do the inverter with an automatic UPS trasnfer

or are you a Victron convert like me

If you have a Cerbo and VRM then you can set it to inverter only from the app, but would seem sensible to remove the mains charger and use the Multiplus for both.

yes, anyone want to buy 3 way mains charger, hardly used lol

As mentioned it can be disabled on vrm, or, set a very low voltage a tad under float, like 13,1v, and make the use of ehu without dipping into the battery reserve. Some settings are not enabled on vrm, you may need a mk3 to set it up properly.

you would think it should have the function to turn the charger off.
If you are on EHU you wouldn`t necessarily want the charger on and that would mean turning the unit off.

thanks you mean this

think its a bit cheeky by victron for you to have to purchase other hardware to utilize all the benefits of what is an expensive bit of kit.

If you have a MK3 connected to can switch it over to pass thru this won't use the charger when connected to ehu.

I may look at a cheaper option. Only want to use the microwave when I’m not on EHU. seems rather expensive just for that.
The renogy or the one from sunshine solar.
I like victron. But they are pricey

I’ve gone for the renogy with built in ups.
£40 cheaper on their eBay site compared to their normal site,
Worth a try given the price.
I’m going to upgrade all the cables from the shunt, neg bus bar to ground and battery bank cables to 50mm just to be sure.
Anyone want to know how i go on just PM me

mick qc sounds brilliant, I'm working out what I need to do but would like to use the 240v sockets when off grid on my Elddis CV80 (PVC) got the solar panel and want to change to lithium it's just wether I use victron to invert and charge and then I can run all the 240v through it so it runs it from EHU or lithium. is the Renogy stuff similar/better/cheaper? I've added a victron shunt so I can see the usage at the moment

Hi, likewise for me the Multiplus has the UPS and automatic switch to inverter supply when off grid I want. My problem is/possibly has been, that I've an Elddis/Majestic van prefitted with a BCA PDU & cabling system that incorporates an Apuljack mains charger with 12v Transformer that supplies the 12v cct when hooked up. When I introduced the Multiplus there was disruption to the 12v functions probably due to the 2 chargers when on hookup as the Multi automatically switched to charging.
Having trawled various Victron forums I found reference to the software switches that can turn the Multiplus charger off. It's been mentioned in this thread, using a Mk3 VE Bus the menu opens up to allow the ave user to set the output to be:-
"On", "Off", "Charger Only"or "Inverter Only".
The "Inverter Only" option works on my bench test rig, albeit without the full 12v wiring, relays etc., and I'm about to re-install the unit in the van so I'll find out if this solution works or not.
There are further setting options available but a code is needed to access these, normally available to Victron approved engineers, which I'm not. Anyone got one by any chance?? Within this section there is a specific Charger page where the charger can be deselected altogether.
I thought about changing to a standard type inverter and a priority switch, like a Cliveway, to get the same functionality but I'll give this a go as having a back up charger wouldn't be a bad thing. Assuming this works. If not then I'll have to change it to the latter option.

There is no codes as far as I’m aware, what exactly are you trying to do? The charger off can be done in various ways. Also you can set power control to draw less from the grid. Best to have a remote digital control as a minimum if no GX in the system. Sometimes you may want the charger on, so you need the laptop and mk3 out to faf about. Simple cheapest way it’s a multi digital control swich from victron. It can do inverter on/off, charger on/off and adjust power control in a instant.

The code is zzz 👍🏻

Hi Raul. It's not a case of limiting the draw from the grid it's a case of stopping two chargers sending current to the battery. The way Elddis fit the electrics makes it very complicated to bypass and still retain functionality so the easiest option is to stop disable the Victron charger. I'd only need that to be enabled if the built-in existing charger broke down. I usually have the laptop with me anyway so that and the VE Bus will allow me to do that. (it's also cheaper 🙂)
