Looking at buying a motorhome I've seen at a dealer. Gov.uk website shows vehicle as untaxed since August 19. No mention of SORN. What does this mean? Should I be concerned? Are dealers allowed to keep vehicles in stock untaxed? Maybe the owner had it off road without declaring SORN. Or maybe just drove it around with no tax. :giggle:

Motor traders do not need to declare SORN for their vehicle stocks.

Cheers. As I suspected. So unless the previous owner was running it around untaxed, the dealer has had it on his books since August 19?

Looking at other used cars on Autotrader, they are also shown as Untaxed. Would the Gov.UK site show then as SORN or untaxed if they were SORN?
So it appears to be the norm, however, the fact that the vehicle hasn't been very active for 1.5 years may be another issue.

That seems likely. It does seem a long time and COVID can't explain it all.

I think the gov website states SORN if that is the case. But you're right about lack of use.

Yes, that is a bit unsettling. 2017 Swift 614. Looks in good nick.

Why? Mine due to Covid-19 hasn’t seen much use since late 2019, I’ve given it a few short runs and a service but not much else,

Yours has done a few short runs and had a service; acropolis22 's vehicle, unless on trade-plates, may not have been out at all. I don't think it's a show-stopper, but something that may have to be taken into consideration.

It's certainly a consideration. How to decide though? Leave it to the RAC engineer, I guess. I certainly don't have the knowledge.

Has it been MOT’t or serviced? What does the dealer say about it? If they’ve had it all that time,it’s either ridiculously overpriced,or there is something wrong with it. Has it got a loan or chattel mortgage on it?

Mot'd a few days ago. Will speak to the dealer when I view. Price is not ridiculous.

Maybe something simple like its layout. While a nice looking wagon, I would not consider it; but, there again acropolis22 would possibly run a mile if he saw the layout of mine.

I'm guessing the batteries will be knackered?
