Knaus Van Ti Plus
Exp
"Newbie", previously day van, but now lots more to learn
Help! Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the 650 and 640 Van TI plus? Both on VW chassis, 2wd, same layout.
Someone, IIRC, mentioned the 650 has a higher bed and taller garage.

TIA

A quick squint at the specs gives a payload figure of 122 kg!! Probably a miss print, but worth checking.

Mike

There is a pdf file attached that talks about weight/mass. On that, it mentions 127kg as remaining load capacity IF the vehicle has 150kg of extras factory fitted and is also carrying 3 x 75 people as passengers. The whole weight issues need hugely simplyfying. It's madness.
Sorry OP....don't know the answer to your original question but my wife and I had a good look round these vans at a show a few months ago. Very impressed with them.

From the blurb provided in the link above:

The 640 is 2 beds, the 650 is 3. Assume the dinette table drops to form the 3rd bed with passenger seat rotated. You may need to ensure the infill mattress/cushion is on the order.

The 640 is on a Fiat, the 650 on a VW.

Slight difference in length, 640 is 689cm, 650 is 696cm

Payload ex works on 640 is 245Kg vs 650 at 227Kg

I have just taken a peak at the spec for the Knaus Van TI 650 MEG Plus Platinum .... Payload ex works ..... 54 kg!!!!!!

So impossible to make that work with a B licence! Such a shame because it it is, in other respects, a decent vehicle.

EDIT: But elsewhere on the same Knaus website it quotes a MIRO of 2920 kg and a payload of 147kg!!

If they have not got a clue about their own vehicle how are we poor shmucks supposed to know?!!!

Post 3 explains it to a degree...have a look at the pdf doc attached

It certainly looks as though it will be heavy. Fortunately both of us are older enough to have C1 licences, so it would be a SV Tech upgrade.

I wonder what the physical layout/dimensonal differences are?

Update on the weight situation having purchased a Van Ti Plus Meg 650 Platinum (177ps, automatic). Just returned from a weekend away, with road bikes still in the garage, 3/4 tank of fuel, some provisions (including 12 cans of beer from Tempest Brewing), clothes etc, no water in the tanks.
Took the opportunity to run over the local weighbridge and weight was 3400kg with me aboard. 1480 kg on the front axle, 1920kg rear axle. Not really any margin to play with, especially if Katharine was with me and the water tank had the 20L minimum and the boiler was primed.
Enquiry made to SV Tech to up plate the weight. I’ve also got a set of wheels, presuming from a 4x4 Crafter which are each rated at 1200kg rather than the 1050kg which may allow some more on the rear axle beyond the current 2100kg.

Doable, but you will need rear air bags, and higher rated tyres. Whether to bother with the front axle is a mute point as with most conventional vans it's almost impossible to overload that axle.
Irrespective of needing the air bags or not they are a good investment for the handling and ride quality improvements they bring.
Mike.

Mike.
The Knaus Comes with VB Semi-air as a standard fitting, and there is a no-cost option to have a higher gross at build, so presumably the UK market standard of 3500kg is a paper ‘down-rating’.
The higher rated wheels have 235/65R16 121\119S tyres which are rated to 2900kg axle weight whereas the 205\70R16 113 are rated to 2300kg axle weight (though the wheels limit it to 2100kg).
I’ll update this when SVTech get back to me.

Update from SV Tech: Uprating is straightforward.
  • Option 1: 3900kg , no changes required to the vehicle with 1800kg on front axle and 2100kg rear, or
  • Option 2: 4100kg, front axle at 1800kg, rear axle 2300kg (using the 1200kg rated wheels & tyres) with evidence that the rear suspension has supplementary air bags
Pretty obvious which option to go for...

Update:
SV Tech replacement plate arrived today, checked, then fitted to the door pillar. V5 amendments filled in, V70 completed for change of vehicle/VED classification to PHGV, nor about to send everything off to DVLA at Swansea.
Suppose, I’d better fit the heavier duty wheels & tyres. It’ll be interesting to see how the ride is as they will be running at much lower pressures.

UPDATE
Weekend trip to Anglesey with the larger tyres running lower pressures, now 46psi front, 58psi rear which is slightly higher than the suggestions from Falken, but close enough to the VW pressures to avoid warnings: Must investigate if I can alter them with VCDS. Ride quality was good, no noticeable affect on fuel consumption.
The other good news was that the V5 has been updated and should be in the post.

Refund of VED received from DVLA yesterday. Just waiting on the V5 now.

First Post! Digging up an old thread but saw this and wanted to answer.

640 Models have an L Shape Dinette setup with a telescopic Leg Table. The 650 Version usually just forward facing Dinette with Fixed Leg Table.

We have the 650 although it’s the Sun Ti and not the Van Ti and we have L shaped lounge.
