Hi, we're planning a 2 month trip to Australia later in the year and due to the high cost of hiring motorhomes out there (£3000+ per month) we've decided to look at the possibility of a van swap.
For those who've not heard of it before, basically you register with one or more internet sites who 'facilitate' schemes, which just means you put a posting on their site and anyone interested in your 'swap' gets in touch by email and you explore if you can come to a mutual agreement.
Great in theory but how do you deal with the obvious security issues, e.g. veryfying that people are who they say they are, that they do actually have a van to swap and that your van will be safe with them, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
Any information from anyone who has maybe researched it and didn't go ahead - please tell us why, or if you have done swaps in the past we'd love to hear from you.:Smile:

from what I have read on here your biggest problem is covering the Australian visitors on your insurance, no problem the other way around as far as I know

Thanks for that Wildman. Our insurance company say they would only insure if they have had a UK Licence for a year. Might be other companies that would insure as hire companies get insurance for people from all over the world.
