Van Ramps for Hire in West Yorkshire

Hi
does anyone know of any places / garages where you can hire their ramps to lift your van to work under it.
Converting an EXLWB Van and need to fix the water tanks to the underside,
I'm based in Leeds , but will travel within reason to get this done , as it's holding up my conversion ATM.
Any help, advice will be very much appreicated

When I was trying to find a garage to rustproof our Transit 350 based coach build I was told that several rustproofing garages had there lifts down rated recently.
With this in mind a pit might be more available. From my time working under vehicles I know a pit will limit access at the sides but most jobs can be done with a bit of thought.

I would imagine health and safety liability and insurance cover for this sort of thing could make it difficult for anyone trying to rent ramp / lift

Your best bet maybe a farm.

The one I used to work on had a brick built pair of ramps.
It meant you could work underneath as well as on the sides and it would take any weight as it was solid not hydraulic.

If you have the space, you could probably build something similar out of railway sleepers.
(And re-sell the sleepers when you are done)

That is how I discovered David McLuckie. I was looking for a ramp design 8 or so years ago when I was at Jim's. I subscribed on the basis of that video being interesting and him being funny.
Then he started doing all the diesel heater stuff. Brilliant.

Annie, I had a similar search last year when I needed indoor space for a week to remove and reseal all my windows. I ended up befriending a geezer in Yate whose business is cleaning and polishing vehicles as I was similtaneously needed some bodywork (it's age you know....) It was win win as he had space for me and got paid for some very nice pimping.
While there I thought these little industrial estates are all over and whenever I go to one I always notice a unit or two apparently empty, maybe it's worth asking the site office if they're willing to allow a very short let? If it was me I'd rather get a weeks rental than none?

Its more a thing of needing the ramps for us.

If you cross the border into our territory (Lancashire), you could park it over a pothole and clamber underneath.

At the goods vehicle testing station at Kirkham there are 2 of the concrete ramps.
Not sure if you could use them or not, but maybe worth a call?

Ahem, we have our own pit ... It was in the double brick garage which we took down as it was smack in the middle of the back garden. Trouble is you'd get a bit soggy trying to use it as we turned it into a pond and the resident newts, frogs and toads wouldn't be too happy either.

Being serious would a pair, or even two pairs of large metal ramps, give sufficient room to do the job?

Good couple of pairs of 3 tonne axle stands and a hilift trolley jack and it'll be easy.

That's how most self converters do it.

i would imagine that anyone considering installing their own diesel heater would have a lot of respect for him. i certainly do !

We use a forklift to lift them, we also have a two post lift but think motorhomes would be a bit much for it.

How did he get down the manhole once the car was parked over it?

Most cars and certainly vans these days you can drain the oil and remove the filter with it flat on the ground .....well I do anyway

Then reached under and undid the nut to release the oil.

This would work for my van as I can fit under to loosen the nut but not fit the bucket under as well.

Just ask at your local garage or mot centre some will rent their 4 posters by the hour if their not too busy, usually at the weekends.

I've always used a cheap basin for draining oil as it's shallower but longer and wider than a bucket ..

I helped him do one oil change. I sat in the manhole with the bucket and a spanner. He then drove forwards.
Cars had more ground clearance and I was shorter in those days. One thing I never thought of was the risk of the toilet being flushed during the oil change.
