I'm a newbie
Hi folks. I have recently bought a 1987 Auto Sleeper Legend, a monocoque on transit style motorhome. It has a Vaillant LPG boiler in it, and it does not work (It sparks, but will not actually light, occasionally creating a flame that quickly extinguishes)

Assuming this is an original part (I have no receipts to say other wise, and everything else is original) I suspect the best course of action is to replace it with a modern equivalent. My problem is that I cannot find a boiler that will fit in the space the current one occupies (240mm wide, 540mm tall). Am I going to have to cut a larger space for it, or am I just not looking hard enough for the replacement?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i doubt you can get the parts for them now so yes its going to be a new heater dont be tempted by the chinese ones on ebay as they are only for out side use .Its not a mega job to fit something else but it will need a new flue out of the side of the van . your choices will be truma ultra store ,malaga or whale probably fitted under a seat box youll need a 12v feed run to it and water and gas rerouted

As tonka says, it sounds like the flame is not being held on by the thermocouple. If you can find the model number, it should be easy find a replacement on ebay etc. It is an easy diy job and does not interfere with the gas side of the boiler.

Thank you, this is the exact boiler we have, this at least gives me more guidance. Thanks to every one else for your suggestions, I shall be having a deeper look tonight after replacing the leaking water pump. (I am buried under small jobs to bring the camper up to satisfactory condition)
