FUNSTER in a PVC
So far I have driven my PVC at least once a week to travel to shop round trip of 12 miles and today I had to visit a client a trip of 30 miles, it was an essential visit for him! He has no computer and we need to get his pensions sorted to start payments to him, this is classed as advice and therefore compliance process is mega. My point is that I passed Police cars, officers on foot not one has stopped me or given me a second glance.

So for those of you who have motorhomes parked up, I would suggest as long as you are using your motorhome on a valid trip get it out and help keep it running better. If you get stopped I do not think the bobbies are bothered what you are driving as long as your trip is shopping, Medical or for vulnerable persons.

Has anyone else tried driving their motorhome ?

I wish! Ours is still at Spitfire Garage following a major service which was completed the day lockdown started...:(

I drive it roughly every 2 weeks for shopping and lpg, and it’s the weirdest feeling to have these extended looks repeatedly. I’m due another tomorrow and I’m sure it won’t be long before I get to the ?????stage.

Honestly I haven’t had any from either the bobbies or Joe Public, I had one guy approach me yesterday morning on Sainsbury's car and all he wanted to say was Like your van where did you get it ? ! Spent 10 minutes at 12 feet apart telling him the story and giving him contact details for convertor and kit suppliers.

I’m probably expecting it now, so maybe looking for it. Who knows, it’ll all be over one day and back on to travels?

I haven't been out in mine, but I've no need to I've got my work van, I can let my mates dog get on the passager seat in that, and my push bike in the back when I take the little mutt out for a run.

We've been out in ours several times, not had so much as a second glance from the Old Bill, or the general public.

I see Otter Spotter and mickyc that you both have PVC's, which may not draw as much attention as my old 7.5T conversion. If it carries on much longer I will take across the road on the farm for a run, the beauty of that is the farm is a WW11 airfield with the concrete roads still in place.

As long as you are undertaking a journey that complies with the law, then the type of vehicle is irrelevant.

So for instance a food shopping trip, or taking aid to vulnerable person is perfectly acceptable in any vehicle (y)

Yes I understand, I just wouldn't want the hassle of being stopped by the police when I've got a van that I go out in most days to go for my exercise, I suppose that's wrong but the local council have left the gates open at the local country park so people can still use it which suits me as I live in a hamlet with no pavements.

So long as you are only going to do essential/permitted things and don't go to the usual holiday places, such as the beach etc then I doubt if you'll have any issues with the Police etc for using your MH.

It will generally harm your Moho if it's less than a dozen years old if you only drive 12 miles

Had to do a 24 mile round trip as we are self isolating in the motorhome and we had to fill up the lpg tanks.
no problems although I did ring the garage to ensure they were open and had lpg. If the police had stopped us it was a genuine reason for travel.

Shouldn't there be a mention of regularly? I assume you're referring to the DPF and the engine being unable to carry out a regen due to not reaching the required temperatures?
If so the warning light would come on to alert you and if you then read the manual you will be instructed how to deal with it

I'm a key worker and have a 100 mile round trip to work and back. I have a job car to use, but once every couple of weeks I take either the motorcycle or the Motorhome just to give them a run. I get a few funny looks while using the motorhome but haven't had any abuse and haven't been stopped by Police.
My advice is the same as much on here, if you have the opportunity to use it for a legitimate cause then go ahead, it will do the vehicle more good than harm.

Unfortunately, the advice will be to do an Italian tune up which isn't possible for most for the forseable future.

Been out to Tesco twice in our PVC and not even seen ony polis never mind get stopped
